So if Byzar has an Anthema and is reduced to zero in combat what happens? I'm gathering he gains a burn counter and goes to torpor, but does the opposing minion's controller gain pool?

He gains a burn counter, goes to torpor and nothing else happens, similarily to Anathema + Reform Body:

He's not removed "instead". He goes to torpor (which triggers Tension in the Ranks for instance) then is removed from the game.
