This was a regional qualifier?

We should probably coordinate some about qualifiers in the area. Not that it terribly matters due to how few people travel to play, but it seems like we should have one qualifier a year.

Can anyone write up a report of the finals? I'm curious to know the details of how this deck won. Nice to see something less common get added to the TWDA!

Ian's brief synopsis from his blog summarizes it fairly well:

iclee.wordpress.com/2013/04/22/it-was-the-best-of-times-it-was-the-rest-of-times/

David (DoC vote/bleed/shatter) -> Rick (Luna/Anu toolbox) -> Robert (Kiasyd Nocturns) -> Mark (Tzimisce Horrid Form) -> Nick (Baali vote)

Or, something like that, as I didn’t really care. Though, Nick, Robert, and Mark did make both finals, which is an achievement. David won by getting the only oust when Nick was crosstabled by Robert’s Shadow Twins to stop Nick from ousting David, but otherwise, I don’t have a great idea what happened.

==========

Nick's deck betrayed him early on and he didn't get the speed he would have otherwise needed. David played smart and focused his offensive forward and Shattering Crescendos backward at opportune times. Rick had a bad crypt draw without Luna Giovanni so he had to get Anu first and dig for Luna, discarding several Governs in the process. Robert's Nocturns beat down Tzimisce and he worked pool gain with Ashur Tablets and Isanwayen and Villein/Lilith's Blessing. Mark blocked Nick when he could and bled for 3 often with someone who had a Tasha. The table was pretty well stalemated for a long time.

As the game progressed and time wore out, Robert realized that he had to play very aggressively to win since Nick was top seed and Robert was 2nd seed. This was not a "king-making" move since if Nick had gotten a single VP then Robert would have had to get 2 VPs to pass him in the final standings. Rick was in bad shape but held on admirably. The DoC torpored some Baali with SC and when they came out from their dirt naps, the Nocturns kept them in hunt loops. Lots of people lunged and missed (or were bounced). Rick eventually ran out of resources and David's Daughters got the only oust it the game with just a couple minutes remaining.

When you are anvil, be patient; when a hammer, strike.
