file Submission: Stalker's Vigil

Name: Stalker's Vigil
Cardtype: :reaction:
Clan: :nosf:
Usable only after blocks are declined during a (D) action against you or a card you control. Lock this reacting vampire to enter combat with the acting minion. The acting vampire may burn X blood to cancel this card, where X is the amount of current stealth. If the acting minion is still ready after the end of the combat, continue the action, and this reacting vampire does not unlock as normal during your next unlock phase. Only one Stalker's Vigil can played during an action.

Art notes:
A shadowy nosferatu vampire emerges from a corrider corner on a back alley behind a vampire trying to lockpick a storage warehouse.

World of Darkness reference:
None

How does this card address a compelling game need?:
While the !Nosferatu did get aides from all the new sabbat cards out there, the camarilla guys are still lacking in many areas. With animalism and Second tradition as their only source of protection, they still fall behind many contemporary decks.

I toyed around with the idea of making the card require obfuscate instead of Nosferatu, but that might open a can of worms. The name could be changed to whatever, and there might be little reason to NOT give the card to !Nosferatu as well.

The card is essentially a reaction version of Yawp Court, and against (D) actions.

A bit of threadomancy now that people got into Nosferatu card suggestions.

Also, why not !Nos as well.

Only usable during a (D) action against you (or a card you control), after blocks are declined. Only one Stalker's Vigil can played each action.
Lock this reacting vampire to enter combat with the acting minion. If the acting minion is still ready at the end of that combat, this reacting vampire does not unlock as normal during your next unlock phase, and the action continues as if unblocked after the combat(s). The acting minion can burn 1 blood for each point of stealth they have to cancel this card as it is played.

This wall of text seems balanced and fits the theme.

:tore: :pre: :tem: :aus: Independent Futurist. Contrarian (titled, X votes where X is the number of votes as the acting minion.) Target Vitals is always the better combat card.

I'd agree that giving it to Obfuscate alone would be potentially problematic, or have collateral effects you might not want. (Although were it possible to give it to Assamites without giving it to everyone else, that might not be so bad.) Giving it to a combination of obf+/ani+ works quite well for sweeping up a lot of Nosferatu and !Nosferatu. obf+/pot+ has some possibilities, but picks up quite a bit more outside the clans too. So I might go with something like:
[obf][ani] [combat] Maneuver, with an optional press. (Or, you know, whatever.)
[OBF][ani] [reaction] Your card.

Which gives you a fairly decent spread of 5 and 6 caps who can play, and a 4 cap, quite a few of whom also have potence. The only non-Nos/!Nos who could play at OBF/ani below 7 cap is an Abomination (Allonso). Looking at [ANI][obf], the spread is somewhat narrower.

It also means it's harder for tiny vampires to use it - I'm not sure that Koko (2, pot) using it is that great an idea, as it stands. But sticking at OBF/ani rather than OBF/ANI keeps the mid-caps, making it much more versatile and quick to start up as a defence.

I am bothered by this continue effect wording. Does this suggest that the vampire playing this card "blocks" the acting vampire? That has an effect for things like Dream World at PRE. I think we want a different wording: "and the action resolves normally after the combat(s)."
