question-circle Game Mechanics by Discipline, Clan, & Sect?

22 Dec 2018 22:20 #92538 by LivesByProxy
Is there any chart or document that lists the mechanics that appear in each of the Disciplines, Clans, and Sects, and the density in which they appear?

If not, I'm going to make said document.

:gang: :CEL: :FOR: :PRO: :cap6: Gangrel. Noddist. Camarilla. Once each turn, LivesByProxy may burn 1 blood to lose Protean :PRO: until the end of the turn and gain your choice of superior Auspex :AUS:, Obfuscate :OBF:, or Potence :POT: for the current action.

Do you mean theme/function?
Like bleed@+1bleed/steal an ally/mill cards?
There may have been something on Lasombras page, but I don't recall.

What purpose would Said document serve? Secret Library and AMARANTH are easily searchable. Not trying to dissuade any volunteer stuff, just asking for curiosity sake.

@Reverend: By mapping out what Disciplines, Clans, & Sects have which mechanics, we can more easily plan where to expand, which things to emphasize, and what the mechanical bounds of each are.

Theme and function are set-dressing, or fluff, or icing on the cake, if you prefer. The mechanics of the game (like bleed bounce, steal an ally, gain blood from bank, wake, unlock, using the edge, politics, etc.) work together with theme and function to give context to the game actions. Otherwise we would have an abstract game like Go.

For example, the theme/function within the lore for the Nosferatu was as spies and information brokers. This is represented via the game mechanics of peeking at other player's hands, the top of your crypt, the top of your library or their library, the enemy's uncontrolled vamps, etc.

This goes back to the idea that VTES has its own "color pie" just like Magic, but for the most part I think VTES' has gotten muddied.

You might want to search for Extrala / Vtes One for their beginning player resources. Those blogs had some.

But there is no harm in doing one yourself if you have the time. They are interesting at least, and often useful for beginners.
