file Question about False Resonance

31 Jan 2018 23:12 #85184 by mjvtes521
I apologize if this has been addressed already, or if it is just obvious, but I couldn't find an answer to it and it isn't obvious to me. My question is, if you play False Resonance at Superior in response to a reaction card that requires auspex being played, can you get the stealth and cancel that auspex card that was just played, or do you get +1 stealth now, and can only cancel an auspex reaction card played later in the action? In other words, do you need to play it at inferior to cancel a reaction card requiring auspex that was just played? Thanks.

False Resonance
Action Modifier
Chimerstry

[1 Blood]

[chi] Cancel a reaction card that requires Auspex [aus] or Dementation [dem] as it is played (no cost is paid).
[CHI] +1 stealth, and once this action, this vampire can burn 1 blood to use the [chi] effect above.

You can only play "False Resonance" at superior if you need the stealth (since at superior it's just a stealth modifier with an added option later on), so you have to use it at inf. if you want to cancel an auspex card.

Once you've used it at superior to get +1 stealth, it's too late to cancel auspex cards already played due to the "as it is played" window of the inferior effect.

Correct.

You are making the assumption that the auspex card grants intercept. It does not have to be the case. The acting minion could be already needing stealth at the time the auspex card is played.

Doesn't really matter what the effect is.

As per the rulebook (1.6.1), there are only two types of effects that can be used when the Auspex card is played - those that say they go in the "as it is played" window, and Wakes.

At inferior, False Resonance is one of those effects.

At superior, False Resonance is just a normal action modifier, that also happens to give you an effect you can use later as something is played. It isn't (at superior) a card that must go in the "as it is played" window like the inferior is, it's just a normal action modifier granting you stealth - and those don't go in the "as it is played" window. As such, at superior it can't played in the "as it is played" window.

I did not make this assumption at all ;)

If the acting minion used the stealth from the superior effect, you cannot use it to cancel an already played auspex card, only an auspex cards that follows.

Example:
- Minion bleeds
- Carna (+1 intercept) uses an eyes of argus to untap and block.
- Acting minion plays False Resonance at superior.
- Acting minion gets +1 stealth, but can NOT cancel the eyes of argus since it missed the 'as it is played window', acting player chose to get the `+1 stealth and cancel an auspex card later option`.
- Acting minion is blocked.

In the above example, you need to play False Resonance at inferior to immediatly cancel Eyes of Argus.
