file Old player looking for tips how to sell huge collection

Hey all,

For starters sorry if this is not the right place to ask.

I used to actively play V:TES about 8 or 9 years ago, bascically when new sets were still officially being produced and the scene around here was reasonably healthy. I travelled in Europe a bit for some international action and made it to the EC final table back when it was in Warsaw.

Inevitably my local group called it a day and I followed and since then my extensive and very complete collection (25k+ cards) has been sitting neatly sorted and well protected in boxes.

As is, I kind of need the space and given that I have no real way or intention to get back into V:TES I was looking to sell it. Naturally, I went to ebay first and noticed some absurd prices for cards that were considered staples and that I own dozens and dozens of. I can't possibly imagine cards like Archon Investigation moving for $30, but who am I?

So do these cards actually sell for those amounts or are VTES ebay shops just dead?

Anyway, I wondered if anyone could give me a pointer what would be the best way of getting some reasonably money for my cards. The shipping cost and total value of the collection would probably too high to sell in one go but I would be fine with cherrypicking the valuable cards and selling them for a good price and bulk sell everything else.

FWIW, I'm in the Netherlands.

Thanks in advance :)

As always, the answer here is "It depends".

First of all you're the one missing out by not getting back into the game ;)

On ebay you can check for completed or sold listings, which will narrow down the error margin of dubious listings which might be over priced.
Some dudes seem to pay absurd prices for some cards but you might get a general picture. Everything not yet re-printed in V5 edition might get some inflated prices, Archon Investigation seems to be one of them.

If you're willing to invest the effort of selling singles, you'll be able to get more money out of it. If you offer the whole lot, most likely a re-seller will grab it.

There's a facebook group for VTES sales and trade where some stuff gets offered. I personally would try to post it in some EU national forums and maybe make a starting player or playgroup happy.

Anyways, good luck with your sale.

I think you should contact a vendor, probably in FB groups and try to get a reasonable bulk price.

Thanks for the answers. I think I'll try to sell some cards on ebay and go from there.

I also have a decent stock of sealed product in my stash - a few unopened boxes of Black Hand and Keepers of Tradition I think and about 20 sealed Starter decks from various sets.

And finally, I also own the original art pieces for Liquify the Mortal Coil and Swiftness of the Stag.

Would there be any interest in the community for either of these?

Most assuredly would be. What you can definitely do is that when you put your sales up you promote it here, in the FB groups and stuff, so people would notice it.

By the way, I just noticed your name and I was a fan of your Tryphosa and your Assamite black hand deck for quite a while!

Also, about the values: anything that is not reprinted yet and was a single print release, or a rare card with few releases holds value still. Mind Rape, Seraph's Second, Dual Form, Aksinya Daclau, Jake Washington, rare Laibon cards like Mbare, Nana Buruku, Well-Marked and such.

Good to hear, they were among my favorite decks too, especially the Assamite one as that was my own concotion. I can't take credit for Tryphosa though - that is Erol Hammer's deck.

I played against in a Belgian Championship running a modified Vignes deck and liked it a lot and improved on it for the EC that year. It got me to the final table on day 2 but then I got unlucky by both having to sit as first player and also missing Tryphosa in my opening crypt :)

I do miss the game and the community, but there's nobody playing anymore around here anymore so I decided to sell my stuff. I'll make sure to post it here when there are some goodies for sale.
