Hello!

Later, rather than sooner, comes the TWD report of the Finnish National Championships of May 19th.

We filmed the whole of finals, but I have yet to figure out how to edit and make the video pretty - I'll need to ask for the help of my brother for that. We also have plenty of pictures, but they have not yet been organized and all.

So at the moment you will have to make do with an Archon, and TWDs.

www.cabal-ostium.net/vtessm/VTESSMArchon.xls

We had some problems with a couple of seatings because I had, in my great wisdom, doubled one attendee who had payed in advance, and signed in Eetu Rautiainen, our second judge and organizer, who obviously wasn't playing. This is why the Archon might seem a bit confuding. The final standings and results of the finals, as well as the seating, stand correct, however.

The finals:

Petteri Teerikangas
Reetta Rautiainen
Timo Rekola
Jarkko Suvela
Niina Stenberg

We actually had to double check if GWs actually trump VPs when battling for the finals, since there were plenty of players with more VPs than Niina, but she beat them with her two GWs. I think it is in order to give her a special mention - she is not a regular in weekly games (in Helsinki, where she's stationed), but almost all her gaming experience comes from roughly 3 or 4 tournaments, one of them being the EC from previous years. So, despite her being a wee bit green, she managed to pummel her way into the finals - and was very, very close to winning the FNC!

The game proceeded with relative slowness, which irritated Jarkko to no end, since he got fewer turns than he would've liked due to cross table bickering between Reetta and Petteri. The game seemed to revolve over Niina taking a careful, but aggressive offensive towards Petteri, who in turn attempted to finish Reetta off with as few turns as possible. Reetta was struggling with getting actions through with Auspex and a gunwall in front of her, and ultimately with simply surviving. Jarkko was largely left unnoticed before the end of the game, after Petteri and Reetta were taken down, and the little time left wasn't enough for him to build up even though the turns seemed to speed up greatly.

Eventually Jarkko was taken down as his War Ghouls were either stolen or mauled, and with only ~5 minutes time to play Niina started to panic a little and made a couple of bad choices - one of them being not risking bringing out another vampire despite her impressive amount of pool. This slowed her down just enough to let Timo seize his chance, take greased lightning turns and wear Niina down, and ultimately oust her at roughly 1:30 left at the clock.

Congratulations once again to all the finalists, as well as Timo Rekola for being the new Finnish Champion!

Were there 28 players or 27?
Do you plan to fix the Archon?
If there is a tie before the finals, you can resolve it on the Methuselahs page by putting in a coin flip number (in the designated column). This allows the finals page to be correct.

Were there 28 players or 27?

27 is the correct number.

Do you plan to fix the Archon?

Not exactly. We tried to fix it during the tournament but if we attempted to tinker with the Metuselahs page, the seating and table orders for all rounds would be messed up. I'm not really sure how to fix this, so we did all the changes to rounds manually. The seatings for all rounds are correct, as we tinkered with them by hand as we went.

If there is a tie before the finals, you can resolve it on the Methuselahs page by putting in a coin flip number (in the designated column). This allows the finals page to be correct.

Thankfully we didn't really need to do this, since it was clear who got in the finals once we cleared the fact that GWs trump VPs.

Also, thank you for the cleaned up deck list!

To fix it, open another copy of a blank Archon.
Put in only the correct information.
Repeat for each page.

I'll also try to post some pics I took either today or tomorrow.

Also worth mentioning, if I heard it right, this was the first deck she ever built herself making the feat even more impressive -well done Niina!

The power behind the throne would like to thank the organizers for excellently organized tournament, nice venue* and 5th Tradition!

I'd also like to thank Jarkko for providing a painting for the winner which, if I have not misunderstood, is apparently going to be used in the upcoming PDF set.

* the venue was some rather new event hall or somesuch for Eastern Orthodox Church and the spacy gaming area was decorated with plenty of icons. Also the organizers had reserved sauna from the downstaris so after the tournament plenty of players were able to do the post-gaming discussions in proper Finnish atmosphere.

Lastly, free alcohol became also available uring the finals -now THAT is service!
The adjoining area had surprisingly also been booked for some social gathering and when they wrapped up they noticed that they had some tasty red wine and excellent cognac left so they asked the VTES players if these wanted to help to empty the bottles... duh!

Thank you! I'll try to see to it.

The cognac was awesome - and totally planned for! I hope we thanked the elder lady enough for the leftovers.

Yep, all the thanks to Jarkko for the fantastic painting - it was seriously amazing! I'll try to find a picture of our special t-shirt. It has the logo of the event at the front side, and on the back there're:

Hilarious.

Oh, and before we get any more detailed information, Petteri was playing Sha-Ennu bleed/box/something, and Reetta was recruiting Shamblers with Guillaume Giovanni. Sorry, I should've shared this info in the beginning. I'm inquiring their decklists right now - let's hope they still have them written down somewhere.

It was fun tournament (thank you again for the organizers and also to all participants!), and Kraus was very right about me panicing on the end of the final - I was already surprised really much to even get to the final, but then when I managed to oust twice, I was so over helmed that I wasn't able to keep my game together. Originally, I was thinking about to bring out one new vampire if I oust my prey, but having two ousts just messed my head up... I also let the out-game whispers ("Hell no, obfuscate-presence stealth bleed CAN'T win the National Championships!") get under my skin, which was maybe the most stupid thing I made. There were few really big mistakes that I made on game, but well, have to learn from this.

Also, as Lönkka said, this was my first deck that I have done all by myself; but also to be 100% honest, it's the 3rd version from it - tested the first version once in Helsinki, second version on GothCon. It started as something little different, but did get simplified on to this.
