file Clarification regarding Raptors

12 Jul 2014 07:26 #63650 by Khalid1988
Hello,

I have been wondering what would happen in the following scenario:

Enkidu is in play and employs a Raptor. After this, Enkidu enters combat with Gustaphe Brunelle. As per the text of Raptor, Gustaphe's controller reduces his/her hand size by 1. After the round and combat has ended, Enkidu uses Psyche to start new combat.

So my question is, whether Gustaphe Brunelle's controller would replace the discarded cards before the Psyche is played or not? Or is there no window of opportunity to replace the cards before new combat starts? :)

Card texts for the library cards

:ani: The minion with this retainer gets +1 intercept.
:ANI: As above, and when the minion with this retainer is in combat, the opposing minion's controller gets -1 hand size.

Combat actually ends, and there is a window outside of combat to play other relevant effects, such as Obedience.

[FZD 20111211]

How does it work now, with Psyche! being inside the combat and Obedience being a reaction?

You can play Obedience to end the action as the combat created by Psyche! would start. Just as before.

And similarly:

[FZD 20011202]

Sp, Marthe Dizzier can now return Psyche! played during combat ?

Yes. Happy New Year, Marthe!

When a combat involving Marthe ends, she can burn a blood to move a card she played during that combat from your ash heap to your hand.

So based on those, combat ends, effects usable at the end of combat can be played and effects usable outside of combat (reactions) can be played. So you're outside combat. So redraw, then discard again in the new combat.

Is it possible to use Marthe's ability on Psyche! BEFORE replacing the card (making it so u dont have to discard after taking back Psyche!)? Or "played" means correctly announced and replaced"?

I am not sure what is the case described but I am sure of something, whatever happen, you will have to discard after using Marthe special even if you have a card which will not be replaced until "a long time from now" (e. g. glancing blow). In this case, you have to consider your hand size to be 1 card less than before playing the card "do not replace until blah" and so if you move a card to your hand, you have one card too many and you should discard.

If I read specifically your example and try to understand it, I would say :

Combat is about to end.
Marthe plays Psyche!
You replace your card (if nothing on the table prevent you from doing it e. g. blood weakens)
Combat effectively ends.
Both combatants can play effects playable after combat (e. g. Marthe special) and effects playable before combat (e. g. obedience)
New combat begins.

You can't.
A card is replaced immediately after being played. The only thing that can happen between a card being played and a card being replaced are
- card-cancellers
- "as played" effects (cost-reducers)
- Wakes
