Why does hector trelane exist, what void does he fill?

why do i love this vampire so much?

Hector Trelane :cap5: :dom::nec::AUS::THA: Tremere:4

Independent: On the first round of combat, Hector can use strikes that require Thaumaturgy that are not usable on the first round. If Hector is sent to torpor or burned in combat, he is burned, and the controller of the opposing minion gains 4 pool.

Interesting ability, but too crippling disability to be a star vampire, too focused to be a splash vampire...would not use.

It is the void of sucky vampires that help your opponent win the game, and you to lose horribly.

He sits in the same pile holding hands with another tremere, Miguel Cordovera

an interesting thing I found, is using the :nec: Tremere to play Cold Aura which sets the range to long. This gives you options against many decks.
Grapplers, in particular, will eat their Drain Life, plus you don't suffer the close range against drawing out the beast.
Hector then can be cool coupled with Preston and Valerius. Necro also allows you to play some stealth / block denial to pass some bleeds or crucial actions.

of course the big drawback is "If trelane is not ready... opponent gains pool."

but I think his special is worth the risk. In a combat heavy environment, you can still play some Wind dance.
Hector helps you get rid of 2nd round combat which may be harder to play with Valerius, for example.

At some point I was also considering playing Hector with Fast reactions and lots of amaranth (and maybe bitter rose) to destroy bigcap vampires : this way, they may burn your diablerist or let him live thinking they will gain 4 pool at some point.
You can also save a cross table buddy by rushing him and letting him gain 4 pool.
Actually Hector is a cheap vampire. A Govern down, an arcane library, he's almost there again.

Damn, I should build the deck just to stand up to the challenge :)

@Pendargon : no no, Miguel is bad. There is no way he canbe useful. It's only one pool to steal him, and it's immediate. Would have he been worded differently (like, you put pool on him each turn something like that, and then burn the counters à la Form of corruption or temptation, I would play him. But he will likely end up diablerizing someone or bleeding you for 6.)

Well, in a combat heavy environment, just don't play him :p

A deck around him will alway be a metagame thing, he is too unreliable in the wild, but locally you can do nice thing with him.
