It's a combination of three things : Summon History for the perfect minion cheaply, plus Enkil Cog with Shalmath's untap for very strong multi-act multi-block capabilities, plus the "do you really want to block this" Temporis / Potence combo.

Having played against this many times while Brian was tuning it, the deck plays something like this :

  1. Early game, tool up, and teach the table that vampires who block Shalmath will burn.
  2. Mid game, a tooled-up Shalmath can use some combination of rush and block to deal with the biggest threats on the table. Remnant supplements the rush, and Ponticulus and Tye supplement the blocking.
  3. Late game, Shalmath can stop most offense, while also moving forward still with the combo to burn vampires who block

It´s really "cheap" deck. 10 summon + 1 heart + 3 cog + 1 unmasking

Nothing a $10 Kindred Spirits or Malk 94 deck can't take care of....

Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.
