TWD Portuguese National Championship 2013

What a great day for VtES in Portugal.
In two months we doubled our usual attendance, got a new FLGS highly motivated in the game, got a new Prince, new players and have good chances of increasing even more. All come from MtG, are friendly and competitive.
This national coordinator turns the year a very happy one.

We gathered for the first Tournament in that store, that by calendar luck was also the National Championship.

15 players (7 new) and already very competitive decks.
Many of our usuals didn't show, so 15 is an awesome number.
Tip of my hat to Sérgio, Prince of Lisbon and Luís Silva for demoing and support in the first few weeks of this new Domain.
Also, kudos for José Antunes - the new Prince of Amadora - for putting up with my autocratic "suggestions" and for a gig well run.

Many timeouts due to many people seeing things for the first time. There was lots of table talk (my fault too) and explaining cards \ strategies.
"Yes, you stop Una before it's too late. Trust me."
With a bit more time, lots of people could of gotten TWs, but I wouldn't trade that for the new players being there, even if I could.

I'll skip to the end - we have a new Champion: Márcia Mota with Márcia's Deck.

Another awesome thing was that we had two new players on the Final.

Here go the names, positions and decks.

Márcia Mota - Deck da Márcia (Giovanni power bleed)
Rui Antunes - Ira's Wall (Toreador Prince wall with weenie support)
Diogo Pratas - !Malkavian G3/4 Stalth and Bleed
Tiago Brum - Girls will find nothing in Amadora
Ricardo Marta - AAA crypt guns (based on Hugh's and Erik's design)


I got pounded really early (Diogo was top seed and I deflected less, so he thought I was a good first Prey).
I pulled an Aksinya who promptly got an Haven Uncovered. It stayed for the whole Final.
I never got Villeins (all of them got Liquidationed) and stayed alive by Liquidation and deflecting with Aksinya.
Ricardo had everything (crypt acceleration on time, Villein-Giant's Blood, etc.) and soon had Anson, François and Marcelus).
With Seconds and rushes (by the time of the Villein-GB) he hit 2 of Marcia's vamps in torpor and 2 of Diogo's (my Predator). All was pointing to Ricardo being our new champ.
In retrospect, Diogo should of used the Haven to rush me and Coma Aksinya.
But still, Ricardo would just backoust him after I was ousted.

I almost got Marcia and Diogo to oust Ricardo. What could I do after that, with just one vamp, no stealth nor real bleed defense? Ricardo was the big threat.

Marcia got Rui, who got out of wake\deflect cards and Diogo cripled Ricardo, but not enough for me to kill him.
At this point I had Aire of Elation, Mirror Walk, Archon Investigation, Pentex and Parthenon.
I had some things going in my favor:
-Marcia had blood in only one vampire, thanks to Ricardo and NEC\DOM costing allot.
-Diogo had only 2 vamps up.
-Ricardo was at 4 pool, with low blood on vamps (even after Villein-GB).

I risked it and played a Parthenon, just in case I would oust Ricardo.
Allas, he used the Golconda he was saving all along for Aksinya on his Anson, Marcia went back to trying to oust her pray and Diogo did the same.

Diogo was top seed.
It made sense for him to oust Ricardo when we still had 50\40 minutes to go.
He never saw a Girls deck before (we were honest explaing all the decks before he chose where to sit), but he wasn't counting on the bloating part of Liquidation.
If he killed me too early, Ricardo would oust him and take the rest of the table.

Since I didn't die, nor did Ricardo, Márcia won.
BTW, had I killed Ricardo, Márcia would've won any way.

This deck was built more than two years ago for a new player by the name of Márcia, hence the name "Márcia's deck" in Portuguese.
