Basic VTES Decks

• Editing encouraged to continually rebalance posted decks.

The core idea behind Basic VTES is to introduce new players to the game with balanced decks that avoid the unnecessary complexities that we grow to love as players. Cards included should have clear text, be simple to understand and not be over powered.

The rules of the game remain the same with the exception of:

• Crypt size: 6
• Library size: 40
• Starting pool: 20

These are the current guide lines to consider when designing the decks:

• Card text must be short — no walls of text.
• All cards must be understandable by card text alone.
• Card should do "cool stuff" in terms of experience.
• Pool spend must be managed via crypt + cards (consider starting with 20 pool).
• Ensure only one or two of the oldest vampires have superior of the core discipline (exact number deck dependant).
• Minimise keywords / concepts by avoiding: bahari, research, triffle, anarch, blackhand, infernal, etc... (these delicacies can be introduced if they pick up the game).
• Try to ensure that no deck _completely_ trumps another.
• Minimise bloat to help ensure games are quick (no powerbase timeout for example).
• No recursion. However perhaps consider a once per game shuffle ash heap to library like the draft rule (due to deck sizes).
• Currently strike combat ends is not used.

Ideally new players should be able to pick a random deck and be able to play it via reading the cards once the basic mechanics and steps have been explained. Almost as if it played like a board game.
