file Sensory Deprivation + Permanency + Oust

19 May 2014 16:44 #62564 by TryDeflectingThisGrapple
Setup: Vampire A controlled by Player 1 plays Sensory Deprivation at [CHI] targeting Vampire B controlled by his prey, Player 2. The action is successful and Player 1 plays Permanency at [CHI].

Two turns later (Vampire A remained ready continuously), Player 1 ousts player 2.

Question: What happens to the Sensory Deprivation that was played on Vampire B?

Current understanding: That copy of Sensory Deprivation is removed from the game before any other effect can occur.

Rationale: Per Rulebook, 1.6.3: "By default, a minion card in play is controlled by the controller of the minion it is on." Sensory Deprivation includes the phrase "put this card on any vampire in play," so Player 2 becomes the controller of Player 1's Sensory Deprivation.

Per Complete Rules Reference III.E.NOTE: "Cards that a Methuselah controls are removed from the game when she is ousted." Since there is no provision in the rule set to order any specific effects as part of an oust, Player 1's copy of Sense Dep (controlled by Player 2) is immediately removed from the game without passing through a step which burns it (therefore, there is no opportunity to trigger Permanency.)

Correct?

Relevant Card Text:
Sensory Deprivation
Type: Action
Requires: Chimerstry
Cost: 3 blood
[chi] (D) Burn any retainer or put this card on any ally. The minion with this card does not untap as normal during the untap phase as long as the acting vampire remains in play.
[CHI] As above, but put this card on any vampire in play.

Permanency
Type: Action Modifier
Requires: Chimerstry
[chi] Only usable after this vampire plays an action modifier that requires Chimerstry [chi]. Move that action modifier card from your ash heap to your hand (discard down afterward). Not usable if the action modifier was canceled as it was played.
[CHI] Only usable when an action card that requires Chimerstry is put in play. Put this card on the action card. If the action card is burned, return it to your hand instead (discard down afterward).

It is removed from the game. Any text triggering on "burning" does not trigger, because the cards weren't burned.
