Life Boon timing was created by Ke.
Hello,

Quick question on the timing of life boon, 3 players left in the game:

  1. Player A bleeds for 3
  2. Player B is unable to block on 3 pool, about to die
  3. Player C on 4 pool plays life boon for 4 pool, keeping his predator ( player B ) in the game and is ousted immediately.

Is there a window for Life Boon to be applied? or does it leave play with player C?

Hi Ke!

Life Boon:

Give pool to a Methuselah with no pool to keep him or her in the game; put this card in play. During each of his or her untap phases, you can collect 1 pool from that Methuselah. The first victory point that the Methuselah wins is given to you (unless you are ousted by then). This Life Boon is then burned.

(Emphasis mine). As any master card, Life Boon leaves play when its controller is ousted, so the only time when the bold precision makes sense is when B earns a VP and ousts C at the same time (either from C being B's prey, from multiple simultaneous ousts, or from B having his own Life Boon on C's predator.) IIUC, in that case, B earns the VP per life boon text. So in your case, the timing question should be moot: either Life Boon never enters play and B earns the VP by default, or Life Boon enters play and B earns the VP per Life Boon text.

Way back in the mists of time, Life Boon used to provide the VP if you self-ousted like that. It was changed in 2000 to prevent that.

From the May 1, 2000 Rules Team rulings:
Life Boon doesn't provide a VP if you are ousted.

Since (as a master card) it is burned when you are ousted, this
makes some sense, but it is still errata to change the "even if
you are ousted by then" to "unless you are ousted by then".
Note: this means that you cannot get a VP for your own ousting -
you will be ousted (and Life Boon's effect will terminate)
before you can collect.

Thanks both, seems obvious now — was at the end of a long day.

Ruling from 2000 + errata text makes it super clear. Cheers.
