When Joseph Fischer uses Muricia's special to become a sterile Ahrimane and gain 1 level of Spiritus [spi] , does he lose his Anarch status and become Sabbat?

So the answer is "yes Joseph becomes Sabbat if he becomes Arhimane"

I read the rule, but to me it appears to be inconsistant to the new ruling regarding the sect of Embraces etc.

at the moment, technically yes.

The powers that be don't want to errata cards that they aren't going to reprint (which makes sense). However, when changes are made like this, some cards go into this weird limbo. Which is why making any sort of brad change to the rules is challenging, as there's 5,000+ cards in the set, and many many cards already printed out there.

That's not a ruling. That's a text change to Embrace and no other cards. Other cards that haven't been reprinted work the way they always have.
