Is it possible for me to set this software to auto-reload, so that, fr.ex. every time I bring the window into focus, it would reload and show any "new" messages, if any?

This is just like any other website. If you can set your browser to do that, it works. Chrome at least has an extension for this. At least old versions of Opera had something similar built in.
