Is there a better way to get into the game?

For just a touch more money, I would buy 2 display boxes of Third Edition boosters and a display box of Third Edition starters.

$50 store.white-wolf.com/3rd-Edition-Booster-Display-P5293.aspx
$35 store.white-wolf.com/3rd-Edition-Starter-Display-P5296.aspx

This seems much better to me. Is 3rd edition the best set to start with then? How is the power balance between sets?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Third Edition is a base set. The only base set currently widely available. If you could find Keepers of Tradition at that price, I'd recommend it instead, but you won't find it anywhere.

The supporting sets for Third Edition are Sword of Caine and Black Hand. Both of these are easily acquired thru White Wolf, at a great discount. I prefer Black Hand to Sword of Caine, but both are complimentary to Third Edition.

After you have a sufficient quantity of any base set, the others expand on it about equally well.

Sets that are complimentary:
Anarchs / Twilight Rebellion
Legacies of Blood / Ebony Kingdom
Legacies of Blood / Bloodlines / Heirs to the Blood
Kindred Most Wanted / Lords of the Night

The only set a new player should truly avoid is Nights of Reckoning. Once you have 6-months to a year of play under your belt, definitely give it a whirl though.

Is there no card rotation like in, say, M:tG?

And thanks for the link - is it simply for the decklists?

The game looks really good - I was just worried that it was going to be prohibitively expensive, which is doesn't seem to be at all! good times! Is WW the cheapest place to get booster boxes etc?

No. There is not such a thing in V:TES.

AFAIK, it is (in the US). In Europe, the cheapest place is www.vtes.de

Thanks! They have the Keepers of Tradition for sale on the EU site - Should I get this instead of the 3rd edition stuff?

What's the difference between the two?

They do not have booster boxes of Keepers of Tradition, but only starter deck boxes, each of which contains 8 pre-constructed decks of 4 clans.
