file Noob here wanting to play a Tzimisce deck!

10 Oct 2019 16:10 - 10 Oct 2019 16:11 #97328 by Noraxthuul
Greetings fellow Methuselah! New player here!

I saw this game online and on Youtube a one week ago and i absolutely fell in love with it. As a big fan of the Tzimisce clan from the role playing game, I decided to get some cards and did some research a bit about their possible playstyles and the key cards one should have in his deck. Fortunately i found a Tzimisce starter deck on my local game store and started from there. Now i own a couple more cards, and i tried to put together a deck for some more games next week!

I think I know what i should strive for with this one, but i am absolutely a beginner and i have next to no experience in actual play, so every advice and criticism is much appreciated!

So, onto the questions!

1 - How do you intend to oust?
The idea behind it is to play a heavy defensive/intercept combat-focused play style, focusing on sending opposing minions to torpor so i can capitalize on the big card like Dragonbound/Fame/Path of Lilith/Army of Rats, and be able to bleed freely near the end game. The Dracon is there for its awesome combat capabilities as well as because is one of my favorite characters in VTM.
The aim of this deck is to be an impenetrable wall that, turn after turn, automatically replenishes my pool (pool/blood gaining cards + vessels and villeins) while also damaging other players letting me sit back and play the reaction game.

2 - How do you intend to keep from being ousted?
Powerful combat cards and lots of intercept cards.

3 - What do you want your ready region to look like (ie, how many guys are you planning on getting out)?
Three to Four mid-high cap vamps with a bunch of cards attached to them.

4 - What do you want your average turn to look like?
Apply automatic effects from cards in play, do minimal actions if necessary (usual recruiting/equipping/sometimes deep song an enemy vamp) and try to cycle any useless card in my hand so i can have a strong reaction game in others player turn.

5 - What's your metagame like? How do your opponents play?
For now my metagame is formed by basically a couple of friends that, just like me, use the BCP sabat precons (or slightly altered version of them).

6 - What problems have you observed with the deck in play?
Slow to oust, some cards may backfire and actually help my prey oust their prey and slow my plans even further.
Weak to combat ends cards. Killing off some Lasombras can be a pain.

My deck now looks like this:

Hi and welcome to the game! Tzimisce make pretty good wall decks due to their combat and auspex as clan discipline.

There are some little things to note with your masters here:

- Your crypt doesn't contain a single vampire with a city title, so you cannot play papillon. For papillon, its not enough to have simply a title. (City titles mean things like "archbishop of Mexico city", "prince of London" etc. ). Instead of it, I recommend Hungry coyote, which will let Sabbat vampires hunt for 2 blood instead of 1.

- However, you have several vampires with titles (bishops specifically), so you are perfectly poised to play Under siege.

Name: Under Siege
[DM:C, Anthology:2, SP:DoF1/PoS2]
Cardtype: Action
Cost: 1 pool
+1 stealth action. Requires a titled Sabbat vampire. Unique.
Put this card in play with 3 counters. Once each action, a Sabbat vampire you control can burn 1 counter from this card to unlock and attempt to block with +1 intercept, even if intercept is not yet needed. Burn this card if it has no counters.
Artist: Anna Evertsdotter; Ginés Quiñonero

I recommend you put three or so Under sieges in the deck.

- Dracon is a cool vampire, but he is slightly too large for this deck. Also, he(it? they?) is not sabbat, so they cannot benefit from Under siege or hungry coyote that I recommended earlier. Maybe replace them with some other vampire. Laika might be an option, or maybe increase the number of Ljudmilas and Lady Zaras by 1. This is a matter of opinion. You can still play with Dracon if you want. I just think he is too costly to bring up.

- I think there are better options for Path of Lilith. Tension in the ranks is good, or a second fame. Assuming you play fame on your prey, so when your prey is ousted, fame is removed from game also. For this reason you might want to have a second one. It is really good for ousting.

- Best wake/intercept cards in the game in my opinion are eyes of argus and sense the savage way, and your larger tzimisces can play both. I would replace 2 read the winds and 2 qui vives with sense the savage ways. A wall deck will need a large number of wake cards.

Powerbase: Baraquilla is way better than Powerbase: Chicago. You need 2 copies of Smiling Jack. You can probably drop all of the Zillah's Valley if you remove the Dracon. Even as constructed the crypt has too many vampires that cannot benefit from Zillah's Valley, so it's probably good to drop. Dreams of the Sphinx is a versatile replacement, good for early exceleration and mid-to-late game card cycling.

Assuming you play fame on your prey, so when your prey is ousted, fame is removed from game also.

Your Fame is burned and goes to your ash heap where it may be recovered by a recursion effect. That being said, there are no such effects in the deck, so a second copy is almost mandatory.

I say give Path of Lilith a try, since you have the means to defend it.

You may also consider Telepathic Tracking to get around S:CE, and it combos nicely with Horrid Form.

:gang: :CEL: :FOR: :PRO: :cap6: Gangrel. Noddist. Camarilla. Once each turn, LivesByProxy may burn 1 blood to lose Protean :PRO: until the end of the turn and gain your choice of superior Auspex :AUS:, Obfuscate :OBF:, or Potence :POT: for the current action.

I'll echo what other people have already said - mainly, tuning your crypt (you may want to drop Dracons in favour of Vladislava) and dropping almost all the acceleration (Zilah's and Info HW).

Again, several (3ish) Under Sieges are very welcome. I'd also think about putting in a couple of Rotschrecks, especially with an Access to so much aggrivated damage.

Other than that, a bit of tuning your combat package (perhaps several Meld with the Lands) and reaction package (you might be low on ammount of wakes).

Also, wall decks are probably the only decks that warrant the 90-card decks.

EDIT: upon rereading the topic - just heed Bloodartist's advice. ;)

Thank you very much for the kind advises!

So onto changes! I unfortunately do not own any Sense the Savage Way, Powerbase: Baraquilla, Dream of the Sphinx or Meld with the Lands at the moment. That said, let's see what I can do:

- Out goes Papillon, as suggested.
- Out go 2 Revenants.
- I will probably try out the Path of Lilith for a couple more matches and, if it feels odd, I'll just replace it with another Smiling Jack.

- In goes one more Fame.
- In goes Under Siege (3x).
- In goes one Hungry Coyote.
- In goes one more Horrid Form.
- In goes one more Carrion Crows.

That's a grand total of 85 Library Cards.

On the topic of Crypt Tuning and The Dracon, i was *really* hoping to find a way to make it work even if it is not the most competitive choice. If i had to remove it from the crypt i would basically swap him for a couple more 8-caps, and have Zillah and Highway replaced with more Intercept/Combat cards + another Smiling Jack just as you suggested.

But let's say i want to childishly keep him in (along with the tools to bring him out quickly), do you have any suggestion on how to exploit his presence in the deck?

Thanks as always!

I'll post the updated version in the spoiler below.

Warning: Spoiler!
