We were supposed to have a mud wrestling match while the final was going on, but ended up watching the table conclude, which was to become a very intense and aggressive match. Firstly everyone was rather surprised that Eetu chose to be bled by Sebastian, the only stealth+bleed player we had in this tournament. It was a thought out choice, however, and the final started.

Everyone started by bringing out vampires, and from the start it seemed to go badly for Eetu, who only drew smaller vampires. He had to battle for the whole of his game with only 3 smaller Lasombra, with no disciplines at superior. Sebastian took his chances and pushed very aggressively through Eetu as soon as he could, since the animalism combat behind him would have ripped him apart in the long run. Sebastian was prepared for high amounts of combat, however (something I failed to see coming), and packed plenty of combat defense in the form of Chanjeling Wards, Oubliettes and Secure Haven. He also packed a dozen of Sudden Reversals to sudden practically all pool gain by his peers, and fames targeted at him.

Timo failed to draw Stanislava, and had to make due with Ingrid and Iliana. He pushed forwards with a calm expression, and managed to bring Tomi down to very low amounts of pool, but did not manage an oust as Tomi used all his power to bring both Gangrel vampires to zero blood, or torporising. Eventually Sebastian and Mikko, who had it easy for most of the game with Eetu struggling with the Kiasyd with practically no pressure, ousted their preys almost simultaneously, and Sebastian, Mikko and Tomi had roughly an hour to finish their threesome.

Still Tomi went forwards very little, and had Mikko and Sebastian duel it out. The Toreador packed so decent amount of intercept, and Sebastian was running very low on blood, that Sebastian’s effort was simply worn down eventually, even though Mikko was balancing with 1-7 pool most of the time. There’s no denying the power of permacept, and most of the time a Bowl of Convergence seems enough. With Sebastian worn down and beaten slowly to torpor, he was easy pickings for Tomi, who had bloated with Ashurs, Villein and Lilith’s Blessing a lot during the game (he seemed to lack any kind of blocking module), and eventually Mikko had little to say against the constant pressure from Aid from Bats and Carrion Crows. He was swearing a lot for his lack of Flashes, which were supposed to be in the deck, and no doubt inclusion of those would have made a difference.

Anyways, the Final was ended well in time, with Tomi earning 3VP+GW with his Masters and Animalism module, and careful and defensive play. What we thought was weird, was that he pressed backwards a lot even in situations where it seemed obvious anyone else would have pushed forwards, but if this earned him the tournament win (a second time this Fall!), who’s to question his methods?

Anyways, it was an interesting tournament, with a very surprisingly high amount of combat deck.

Also, Aki and Jani, both being very new players, were presented with premade decks by Eetu for their high level of attendance and remarkable ability to cope with how rough the game can be for a beginner – but still thriving through the difficulties, and teaching even our high Prince a lesson or two about how combat is done properly! My Cock was sure lessoned that Saturday…

Next one coming 17.12.2011!
