Report Meritiense 2024
On Sunday, July 21st, the municipal VtES tournament at Powerbase in São João de Meriti (RJ) took place, with the prestige of 26 players. Of these, 24 registrations were made in advance and for that I am very grateful to everyone; Doing this helps the organization a lot and makes the event better for all players! Highlight for Leonardo Freire, the first entrant, who therefore won an exclusive promo award at the event.
The tournament took place at the Bruno Poke Cartas store, in Carioca Shopping, and featured competing players from Petrópolis, Vilar dos Teles, Nova Iguaçu, Mesquita, RJ Capital and RJ Zona Oeste. The big news, communicated first-hand to those who were there, is that we have entered into a partnership with the store and have already started importing VTES material. So get ready, this July we will have decks for sale in the store!
In the initial two rounds of the competition, only one table finished by time in each round! It is worth highlighting the large presence of combat decks, there were also two Toreador Antitribu with different crypts, classic Triple A, Theo&Beast Rush, Banu V5 and classic Assamita, Ravnos V5, Lutz, Malgorzata, Malk Lunatic Eruption, among others.
Before the final, we awarded the 6th to 26th placed with a participation booster and then, starting from the first placed to the last, each player could choose a promo from a pool where there were Jake Washington, Awe, Archon Investigation, Theo Bell Full Art and dozens of other letters.
Highlight for Maria Cecília, player from Petrópolis, who was in the final, but pointed out to the organization that her results were recorded incorrectly and, instead of 4 points, she scored 3 and a GW, leaving her out of the final table. It's the female presence making all the difference at the event!
The final table looked like this:
Felipe Gonçalves TheoBell&Besta Rush
Jonathan Notorios Banu kassin/Marduk
Victor Cordeiro Gangrel V5
Daniel Coutinho Brujah Antitibu Rush/Show Force
Alanmut Arishat&Horde Vow/Bleed
To analyze the last round, Felipe Gonçalves, champion of the tournament.
“Even though I was fourth, the second to put the deck on the table and choose my position, I felt comfortable and confident that I would be able to survive because I was able to do the Heroic Might action as soon as I called Theo Bell. That way, I would already be able to hit my prey's Banu, even if he maneuvered.
20 minutes into the match, Alan was almost dying due to Coutinho's UNINTERRUPTED pressure, so I was able to feel more at peace. With that, I saw an opportunity to attack my prey and laid down one of his three vampires, who had Fame. Notorious and Victor began to clash, with a Priority Contract followed by an Anathema. Alan couldn't resist the 20 or so bleeds he took and died. As soon as my shift arrived, I sent one of Coutinho's three vampires into torpor and kept two standing, out of pure fear. Meanwhile, instead of continuing towards the VP, he tried to take advantage of Anathema and went back, but Victor managed to defend himself and survived.
Notorious started losing a lot of blood from vampires and his hand cards weren't helping, often without prevention and Second Tradition, therefore, placed another Priority Contract and went ahead. Victor managed to defend himself again, but this time with an Ivory Bow. At this point in the game, I had already placed Tension in the Ranks. So, combined with Fame, my prey was very fragile.
Soon after, Coutinho tried to get one of the two vampires out of torpor, using his only ready vampire. Victor blocked and used his Ivory Bow, so the two vampires went into a daze. I saw this opportunity to diablerize Coutinho's vampire, as my Beast was out of blood and without a Guardian Angel. I woke up with Victor, who voted for the beast not to be burned and I was lucky that Notorious didn't have a voting card in his hand, so we tied the votes with me burning Edge.
At that point, Coutinho was already without vampires and with little pool, due to the damage from Tension and having contested a Fame with me. Thus, Victor got his VP, becoming my predator. Soon after, I managed to take out Notorious, without the bleed, and got ready to face Victor. On my turn following the first VP, I put the second Fame from the deck on one of my prey's two vampires and went for it. Unfortunately my Beast went into torpor and then came the decisive moment of the final.
I tried to get out of the torpor with her, hoping that Victor wouldn't have the power to wake up his vampire with Fame, so he would use the other one and leave the way clear for Theo Bell to rush into the famous. Everything went wrong, I was blocked and diablerized. Then I got into combat with the famous vampire and I wasn't blocked! With a beautiful Immortal in hand, I made the basics of the deck and sent the famous one into torpor. Victor had 5 from pool, lost 3 from fame, 1 from Tension and was unable to survive his untap, taking the final blow of fame to his vampire in torpor.”
