As autumn falls in Joensuu and the flu season arrives (I was one week sick right after tournament), methusalehs from all over local area gather in a poorly ventilated tight space to transfer their Vampiric Diseases. Players from Jyväskylä and Kuopio graced Joensuu and we managed to muster 14 players for this tournament! Kuopio really injects fresh blood into these events.
The final reveals:
In the finals we saw familiar faces and our very own "Clan Tiippana" was top seeds Simo as the first seed. Seating was as followed:
1. Toni Manninen - Banu Haqim
2. Petrus Makkonen - Matthias Ventrue
3. Simo Tiippana - Instantaneous vote-bleed
4. Mari Tiipana - Dementation bleed
5. Pasi Karjalainen - Tzimisce tap & bleed
As the finals began, Toni was already in deep doodoo. First player with four identical second-class vampires in the crypt was just... sad to watch. It seemed that Pasi would take somewhat easy oust from Toni, but Mari surprised and aggressively bled Pasi out in the 31 minute mark and next went Toni when Mari ousted him when there was 55 minutes left in the clock! Toni's combat hand was as flat as his crypt, just some basic hand strikes with blurry.
Meanwhile, when Mari was playing aggressively, Simo bloated and Petrus used his Vast Wealth to collect ALL equipments from his library. Joke of the table was that it was all inheritence. But now in three-way, situation was quite palpable! Mari was in sturdy 2 point lead and Simo and Petrus could only win by ousting players in certain order. Then came the Kindred Spirits bleeds all over the table! There were some negotiationing, some threatening and then some banishments. Simo decided to banish Petrus's equipment-hoarder Matthias, then there were Mari's Kindred Spirits bleeds to Simo and the table was like a wild west!
In the end, Petrus was able to wrestle table control as Mari's library was exhausted and all she could do was just run her vampires against wall named Matthias. In the last minutes, Petrus ousted Simo and Mari and won the finals with 3 points against Mari's 2!
Really exiting final with highs and lows and some humour!

What was the seeding? Wouldn't it help Mari to self oust and give one VP to Simo to win with 2 VP against Petrus' 2 VPs due to higher seeding?

After the finals there were some discussion about the situation and that was one outcome that came up. Simo was the highest seed and then Mari, and Mari's self oust would have given one point to Simo and thus would make Petrus the "king maker" as to who is the winner, Mari or Simo.

Yes Joscha, this was discussed - it was really Simo who figured it out, and I think it was a good discussion. But at that point I was thinking to myself that if I can't win from that position, I could just as well just flip a coin to see who wins, so that also gives Mari only a 50/50 chance of winning. It wouldn't be a much more substantial form of forcing the table than just playing it out.
Which, I believe, is a good thing overall for the game so that finals play states don't become as solvable with out-of-play considerations. The more finals are solved by actually playing cards, the better for the game overall. Pathways for winning finals can get very narrow as is because of the seed structure and picking of places - A, B and D need to happen exactly in that order and I swear to god if anyone tries to go C at any point, for me to have a chance of winning from position delta.
Overall a great little event! I was glad to just attend for a change, taking the trophy is never something you plan for.
