file [Rule Submission] Expanding the role of the REFLEX card type.

10 Dec 2023 02:34 #110041 by Juggernaut1981
At the moment, REFLEX cards are:
  • all combat cards
  • card cancelling card

However, there are also a number of other 'cancel' type cards that happen in the same 'as played' window as the combat Reflex cards:
  • Masters: Sudden Reversal, Wash, Direct Intervention, etc
  • Reactions: Bliss, Iron Heart, Ophidian Gaze @ PRE SER, Power of All, Scry the Hearthstone @ VIS, etc
  • Modifiers: Approximation of Loyalty @ PRE, False Resonance, I am Legion @ dai obf, Touch of Clarity, etc

PROPOSED CHANGE
  • Reflex card type is used for all 'cancel as played' effects, and is an additional type to those cards. The cards retain the play restriction of the other type as well.
  • Reflex card type effects are marked on other cards with the Reflex icon (e.g. Bleeding of the Vine)
  • Reflex card rules are updated to cover the standard rulings about 'cancel' cards (e.g. you cannot replace cards until 'cancel as played' effects resolve, you may wake to enable a [reflex] to be played, etc)

Proposed New Rule
REFLEX CARDS AND EFFECTS
Minions and Methuselahs can use Reflexes to cancel a specific card type, or with a specific trait, as it is played. Minions may also use Wake effects to allow them to use a Reflex; these are the only two types of effects able to be used as another card is played.
Methuselahs do not replace cards they play until all Reflex effects from all Methuselahs are handled.

Example New Card Texts

Wash
Master. Reflex.
Out of Turn. Trifle.
:reflex: Cancel a :master: card played by your Predator or Prey; no cost is paid. The other Methuselah gets +1 Master Phase Action in this Master Phase or their next Master Phase.

False Resonance
Modifier. Reflex.
:chi::reflex: Cancel :reaction::aus: or :reaction::dem:; no cost is paid.
:CHI: +1 stealth, and once this action burn 1 :blood: to use the :chi::reflex: above.
