first off: I currently don't have much (or any) control over the outlining of the card title. that's a function of the program i use to compile the card, an older version Ankha's VCM (I still haven't gotten the new one to work properly).
regarding the readability and gradient (particularly on Zephyr): they can't all be winners. Some artwork will naturally lend itself to the full bleed format, some will look awful, regardless of how awesome the actual piece in question is.
Someone, somewhere in this thread suggested for one alternate version or another, that there be no 'card background' for the card title. One of the best functions of that background is to make the card title readable.

I agree, you do need a much stronger outline on the card names because you don't have a guaranteed background which will let them 'stand out'.
I like the version without the 'top gradient'.
I don't think the smaller boxes will be easy to read on a card printout, they could get well below the probably 8pt print.
It needs an outline, but not necessarily thicker. Screen display and print display are very different.
