Sorry if this has been covered somewhere - I searched the forums and couldn't find anything.
Why are players required to print the VEKN expansion cards in color, rather than also allowing black and white? (I'm not arguing against the rule, just curious as to why it was implemented.)

i would imagine that it has to do with keeping the VEKN sets consistent with previous printings. It can also be difficult to discern what's being played from across the table if the cards are in black and white.

I don't recall whether the V:EKN ICs have made a formal statement regarding the matter. Reasons that matter to me, as Design Team Leader:
- The artwork, graphics, aesthetic, and setting of V:TES are core elements of the enjoyment of the game.
- As self biased pointed out, full-color printouts aid in immediate recognition and distinction of the cards, especially cross-table.
- Efforts to get V:TES back in print remain ongoing, and we wish to demonstrate to the rights holders that we will handle their properties respectfully and professionally.
- While V:TES remains out of print, player retention and new player acquisition remain critical. Nothing says "dead game" quite like black-and-white paper cutouts.
I'm guessing that part of why you're asking is because you plan on attending the tournaments at TempleCon.
If you need color printouts, I'll be bringing some with me.
