Greets!
I'd like to know whether altered art cards are playable in a formal VtES tournament or not? One of my players asked me to acquire some information regarding this topic, because he would like to alter some illustrations, especially on cards from the printable expansions. As far as I know, if it is not interfering with the cardtext's content, altered art cards are legal to play in MtG.

Altered art in MtG goes a bit further than that, actually. If memory serves, the card must be recognizable and no vital information (like card name, type, or power/toughness if it's a creature) should be hidden. Preferably, card text should be visible.
The card should also not be noticeably thicker or rigid or in any other way possible to identify from other cards in the deck.
In the end, in an MtG, you can use these as a rule of thumb, but should ask the Head Judge(s) if the card(s) is/are legal, as it comes down to his or her decision.

The rules seem fairly clear here in regards to actual cards — as long as it's a genuine card it should be OK. A guess a common sense approach to legibility / recognisability would apply.
It's a little greyer in terms of the PDF cards due to:
Which suggests they can't be modified.

4.1. Cards Allowed
All cards in a player's deck must be genuine Vampire: The Eternal Struggle or Jyhad cards

or official V:EKN issued cards from the only authoritative source www.vekn.net.
