file Minimum number of players for a rated tournament

Hi folks,

Simple question:
What is the minimum number of players for a tournament in order to be rated?

(I hoped to find the answer in the Tournament Rules, but did not.)

Thanks in advance!

From 3.1.2. Preliminary Rounds Seating it could be interpreted via method of elimination that the smallest number the rules account is 4. Actual sanctioning people should confirm or deny that at their leisure.

...The judge will randomly and impartially assign players in groups of five. In the event that the number of players is not evenly divisible by five, the judge will assign players in groups of four and five, such that as many groups as possible contain five players.

If the players cannot be divided into groups of 4 and 5 (i.e., there are 6, 7, or 11 players), then the judge may elect to use a seating arrangement in which some players sit out each round (while still ensuring that every player plays the same number of games, usually equal to one less than the number of rounds). ...

Configurations for seatings of three, two or one player are not laid out, whereas 4, 5, 6, 7, .... etc. are. To be sanctioned it would be logical you need to first seat people via the official tournament rules.

In theory smallest sanctioned Storyline event could be 1 as there could be a event deck with pre-arranged play order that has it's prey control it as it plays with open hand and uses cards as it can while taking certain actions with first priority. Thanks to being able to bend the rules in storylines, sky is the limit and one is the floor, altho if there's a storyline deck that the judge controls, and he does not take part in the event, with rules where the storyline deck auto wins unless anyone of the players does the floor become zero players? If the turney by rules happen but nobody but the officials take part on it, is it a tournament?

Although 4 and 5 player tournaments are possible, in practice they are awkward because they can't run the multi-judge system - that requires two tables. Technically that can happen - say, you're playing in a games shop and a member of staff is working but happy to judge - but much more commonly you would want 6 players.

On which point, I think the tournament rules are out of date:
2.9. Multi-Judge System
The Multi-Judge System may be used at any non-qualifier, non-championship tournament with at least eight participants (i.e., having at least two tables).

I suspect this dates from the days before ways of handling 6 and 7 player tournaments were created. As per www.vekn.net/forum/event-reports-and-twd/63835-howto-use-the-archon-correctly , Pascal seemed content with 6+ - there will always be at least one Methuselah who isn't participating in the current game.

Back in 2011, I got a 5 players event rated.
Thus I would assume the minimum number to be five.

Maybe it helps to frame the background of my question:
One of my Princes had a limited event with 4 players.
The Archon sheet itself was fine with this, but the upload system refused the sheet because of less than 5 players.

I hope Ankha will enlighten us soon.

4 will do, since the only requirement is to have 4 or 5 players at every table.

5, 8, 9, and 10 will also do.

12 is the lowest number out of the continuous set of numbers which will do,
since 11 cannot be divided into 4s and 5s.

However, for practical reasons due to the handling of the archon results, it should be 5.

Maybe this decision should be added to the tournament rules.
