Are the War Ghouls in the center of the table considered in play but uncontrolled?

Do they need extra text that enables them to act when you gain control of them since they weren't in play and don't use a keyword such as PUT into play?

For simplicity, they are not considered in play when they are in the center of the table. (So you can't target them. I don't think it otherwise should make a big difference).

Would it help to say that you "gain control" (instead of "take control"):

As a master phase action, a Methuselah may burn a pool to gain control of an untapped DeMenTed War Ghoul from the center of the table

Would that answer your question / address your concern?
