~12% is from 2003-2007. The 2011-2012 timeout was ~28%

So it seems that when you make the finalists just play the damn game and not spend 10min trying to polish-a-turd-deal until it sparkles like gold... you get table sweeps...
I would not make conclusions based on one final alone
The spain torunament statistics show ~12% timeout only in final, which is not all that bad. Of course, maybe big event are a lot more likely to time out and it is hidden in thoses stats by smaller tournament.

This is untrue. There is no rule that says this. All players are supposed to maximize vp's ,

For my part I did not see much "slow play" in final day 2.
Some players may actually have taken some time to do their actions, but nothing really subversive.
The winner played a girls deck (long master phases) but he did played at the same speed from the beginning to the end, and never played defensively or whatever. He almost took his second VP with a bleed for 7 with Lutz but got blocked by carter.
I don't really see the problem with what happened this year.

Sadly, I believe the majority of VTES players are either not good enough at VTES to comprehend this issue or completely uninterested in changing the current paradigm.

I just read those rules and I saw that player with highest ranking from preliminary will win in case of a tie. I have played card games since 1995 and I see it for a first time that preliminary have an imapact on top 8 or finals. With this time limit player with highest ranking after gainig 1 VP will probably win the table. It's not good in my opinion. Do you have any records hovy many players with highest ranking from preliminary won the finals?
