vast wealth + hay ride

when I equip via Vast Wealth and the action is blocked, the weapon I tryed to equip is put in the ash heap. Does that qualify as "used for the action" to play Hay Ride or would I have to play the equipment card from the hand and use its inherent equip acton for that?

Vast Wealth allows you to take an action to search for a weapon. If the action is blocked, you don't search your library.

Can't be played? Or has no effect when played?

I mean, "Only usable after resolving an action (successfully or not)" seems like it would apply in this case. And, "As your next action, that Blood
Brother may" is clearly both optional and outside the scope of this action.

Contrast the case where the chosen Blood Brother is unable to take an action. (They may have a Bauble, or just be tapped.) That would also prohibit the optional clause from being possible, but I wouldn't expect that to prevent the play of Hay Ride.

Originally I was looking for a card that grants a Anonymous-Freight-like effect without being an action itself, but obviously such a card does not exist. And if equiping with Anonymous Freight, Hay Ride probably can only be used for this and not for the equipment.
