file Pocket out of time and timing rules

I have a question with the last errata on Pocket out of time : you can play it after a combat, supposedly to be able to restart a new combat.

Or, it seem to me that when a card autorize you to do something during [X], it should be played before [X] and not during [X], i.e. the condition must be met before the "start" of the windows where you can play it, not during it.

I have tried to look the complete rules reference for information on that kind of effect, but I failed miserably.

So...

* What are the rules for conditionnal effect ?
* for somewhat advanced rules like that, where should rules be seeked ? Maybe stickying a post that link to thoses ressources in this forums ?

Pocket Out of Time:
[TEM] {Playable after a combat.} After any combat this action, this vampire can burn 1 blood to start a new combat with the opposing minion (if both combatants are still ready).

If you look to the left, there's a link called All Rulings under the RULES-header. POoT will probably find its way there as well.

It's not played "during something", it is played "after something".

Good idea in general ; in this case, it seem not to be updated yet. POoT is not mentionned, and some modified card like Psyche have old ruling :

Psyche! and Coordinate Attacks have had their cardtexts changed to match the fact that they are combat cards, and should be played inside combat.

While the ruling still have :

The superior is played after combat ends, even though the card is a combat card. [RTR 19980928]

Still, I will try to remember to look the list up before asking questions.

Edit : Ankha, I suppose it can't be played any time after combat, I.E. you can't play it after resolving one other action. So it's more or less "after the combat and before finishing the resolution" or something akin to that I suppose.

It's an action modifier. Therefore you play it during* an action. "After any combat this action" refers to that action. And "after" means "after"...

* nothing to do with the "During X do Y" template

The motivation for the update can be found in this ruling: [LSJ 20091122] .
(short version: You can't play action modifiers after resolution)

With previous cardtext, PooT was only playable before any block was successful or before resolution. In 99.9% of the cases that's before any combat (the remaining 0.1% is when your Trujah calls a vote, and someone uses the Yawp Court to enter combat with you, and you want more rounds).

The intent of the card was to have it playable after a combat. So the cardtext now matches the intent.

The last RTR will apply starting Jan 01, 2012. Until then, all previous rulings apply. Including Psyche! being played after combat.
