file Timing of "as the action is announced"

09 Dec 2011 16:44 #17868 by Hakuron
Example:
I play Entrancement on :PRE: ((D) +1 stealth action. Take control of an ally controlled by another Methuselah.), announce my target, and now:
How long do I have to wait for a card like Direct Intervention, before I can play cards like Seduction or Force of Personality on :PRE:?
Would it be okay that I wait a moment (some seconds), then replace, and play the modifier, thus no longer the Entrancement could be DIed?

Seduction:
Only usable as the acting vampire's action is announced.
[dom] Choose a younger vampire. That vampire cannot block this action.
[DOM] As above, but you may choose a vampire the same age or older.

Force of Personality
[ACTION MODIFIER] Only usable as the action is announced. Vampires must burn a blood to attempt to block this action. Non-zombie allies cannot block this action.

Thanks

If a card is a reasonable target for a DI, just ask for it and move on if nobody responds.

The people playing the DI should be pro-active about it. You have the impulse and if they want to interrupt anything, it's up to them to play their cards in a timely fashion. If they need some time to think about a DI, they should make this clear.

"Entracement on Carlton. Any DI's?"

wait 3-4 seconds... (if someone is condidering a DI they should make this clear right now)

<replace Entrancment. The DI window now closed>

"k, Seduction on Carna, any blocks?"

In cases where the card is not really a prime DI target, I have a habit of playing the card, announcing it properly, put any blood cost on the card and tap my minion before replacing it. That should give anyone enough time to pipe in if they wish so. If they still want to DI after I replaced, I tell them it's too late because I replaced. This gets you into arguments sometimes, but at speeds up play by a lot.

If you want to have DIs in your deck, play them properly and in time. If you can't handle it, play other cards.

You should wait until all decline to play such a card.
The easiest way usually is to ask if someone plays / considers playing DI. If they all say no, then continue. Otherwise, wait till a final decision (play / not play DI) is taken.
Asking if they play it is the easiest, shortest and cleanest way to do.

Would it be okay that I wait a moment (some seconds), then replace, and play the modifier, thus no longer the Entrancement could be DIed?

If they've all declined, yes. If one of them hasn't declined, no.

The Seduction window is kinda tricky, especially fater having waited for a DI, as most people tend to want to block immediately. And you tend to want to use Seduction on the most likely intercept character (in-built intercept, untapped or/and suitable intercept disciplines).

I want to avoid the situations where a player who is quick on the draw immediately announces a block before you have the window for Seduction as ir is kinda cheesy to target character that was just announced as the blocking minion. Not that far from unsportsmanlike conduct really...

It is really not tricky if people properly announce their plays and go through the phases B)

Entracement. DI? No. Replace. Seduction.
If someone tries to black before that, his problem, you are free to play Seduction on the guy who wanted to block.
