Each counter represents one blood. Why can I not target the counters instead of targeting the minion?


I think Haze already gave a reasonable answer to this. If vampires used equipment cards to pay for reactions instead of blood, maybe this situation would be reversed.
Any deck can win, whether you're using stealth bleed, rush combat, or Soul Gem combos. It doesn't matter if your minions use Auspex, Thaumaturgy, or Melpominee. What matters is the Methuselah uses Presence. That is how deals are made. That is how games are won.
