Slaves pretending not to be slaves?

Can a Slave Clan impersonate to become a non-slave? For instance, could a Tremere slave Gargoyle Clan Impersonate to be a Tremere and allow other Tremere slave Gargoyles to act? Does the impersonating minion lose its own slave status?

Choose a clan and put this card on the acting vampire. This vampire is considered to be of the chosen clan instead of his or her original clan (if any). This vampire can burn this card as an action.

Slave: Some minions are identified as slaves to a specified clan. A slave cannot take a directed action if his controller doesn't control a ready member of the specified clan. Also, if a member of the specified clan controlled by the same Methuselah is blocked, the controller can tap the slave to cancel the combat and to untap the acting vampire and have the slave enter combat with the blocking minion instead.

Clan Impersonation does not remove the 'slave' trait.

Absolutely.
It also allows that Tremere Slave Tremere to take directed actions, as there is a ready Tremere in play under the control of the same Methuselah.

the slave status is not tied to the clan itself, it's just card text. much like Baali + infernal or Blood Brothers + circle
