Additional Strike Generation Sequencing
- Initial strikes are resolved.
-A declines to generate additional strikes.
-B chooses to generate an additional strike.
-Can A now generate an additional strike?
We ruled that they could, mostly due to this wording in the rulebook: "The acting minion decides whether or not to gain additional strikes before the opposing minion, as usual." Some of us thought that the "as usual" language referred to the same way that the impulse passes during the pre-range, maneuver, press, and end of round phases.
Having looked for an answer online, the only thing I could find is this thread here: www.tomshardware.com/forum/74224-13-tenebrous-form-allies-declaring-additional-strikes
In this thread, LSJ says that no, A can't change their mind and choose to generate additional strikes after making their initial decision, because that's the way the rulebook has been for the past ten years (from 1995-2005). He also mentioned that he'd review the rule, but I couldn't find any evidence of what his decision there was.
Presumably his ruling still stands, but I just want to double-check...?

The logic works the same as pre-range impulse or similar:
Correct. Acting Jimmy can still declare gaining an additional strike after Alcoan gains an additional strike.Standard priority rules: if the reacting minion plays something, priority goes back to the acting and the window does not close, so Jimmy can play his Pursuit now.

It was reversed in late 2006 - and also for damage prevention, which had also previously generally worked on the basis that the acting minion prevents then the other minion prevents.
[LSJ 20061111]
REVERSAL: the gaining of additional strikes is subject to 1.6.1.5 (just like
the gaining of maneuvers, &c.)
So if the acting minion declines, but the blocking minion then gains
additionals, the acting minion can respond by gaining additionals of his own.

Yes. (Also a reversal).

Hi all. Question regarding Hell-for-leather from a VTES newbie (relative to ya’ll). Assuming all my strikes are hands, can I play the card at animalism (strike: dodge, additional strike) followed by another HFL at celerity (additional strike above limit) after the first additional strike resolves.
Yes. The sequencing is:
- Declare your strike (HFL @ani: Dodge + additional)
- Opponent declares his strike.
- Resolve strikes.
- Declare your additional strike.
- Resolve additional strike.
- Play HFL @cel (additional strike that doesn't count against the limit)
- Declare your additional strike.
- Resolve additional strike.
The rulebook basically says that the order is not relevant (but you must still play the sources of additional when appropriate). If Yes, is that the correct order of play? The rulebook at 6.4.3 suggests I can generate the above limit additional strike prior to the first: “Some additional strike sources explicitly state that they do not count against this limit; those can be played before or after additional strike sources. that count against the limit.”
For instance, you could hand strike, gain an additional with HLF @cel, choose HFL @ani as your additional strike (and gain another additional strike), and then strike a last time.
Correct. However, some errata (www.vekn.net/…/69208-additional-strikes-compounded-c…)suggests that because in HFL there is no window after the dodge and before the first additional strike at animalism, I must wait until after the resolution of that strike before generating the above limit strike.
