Some of the folks I play with don't always have a perfect level of understanding written english, and the subleties of precise wording...

Vulture's Buffet
ACTION
+1 stealth action. If this hunt is successfull, unlock this vampire.

obf: Remove a minion or retainer in any Methuselha's ash heap from the game to hunt.
spi: As obf above, but at +1 hunt.
SPI: As spi above, and you gain one pool.

Is the removal of a retainer/minion from any players ash heap mandatory to play it? What happens if nobody has a minion/retainer in their ash heap?

The "Remove X to do Y" means: If you can't do X, you can't do Y. Therefore, if there is no minion or retainer in any ash heap, you can't play the card.

Wait, is that really the latest text? It's not a hunt action any more?

It says "this hunt', so I'd say it's a hunt action.

It used to specifically say "+1 stealth hunt action." So if it is still a hunt action then the current text is less clear.
