I'd say you won't get additional damage indeed.
But other than that, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to play a Cleave on the Ring and burn it at the end of the action. Although I'm not sure why you would do that either.
Adding damage to the Ring strike will not deal damage. [RTR 19960221]
