Could you use the "House of Sorrow" during a "as a card is played" window, to unlock a "Bleeding the vine" to use the Vine to cancel a Master card?

No, no effect other than wake and cancel effects can be played during the "as a card.is played" window. See for example
The Erciyes Fragments' ruling:
Cannot be used when a card is played to draw a card that would cancel it "as it is played".

More to the point, it's now in the rulebook:
www.vekn.net/rulebook#playing-a-card
Some effects can cancel a card “as it is played.” These effects, as well as wake effects, are the only effects allowed during the “as played” time period of another card. Even drawing to replace cards, comes after this time period.
