If you dodge at close range against a vampire who has a Disease Counter, then do you avoid getting a Disease Counter yourself?

Put a disease counter on any vampire. Each time a vampire with a disease counter is in combat at close range with another vampire, the second vampire gets a counter as well. An afflicted vampire cannot gain blood by hunting. When an afflicted vampire unlocks, he or she burns a blood or, if unable, burns the disease counter. A vampire can have only one disease counter.

Vampiric Disease doesn't read that a strike is necessary, just be in close range, so I would rule, that the dodging vamp does get a disease counter.

Correct, A dodge only protects a vampire from negative effects sourced from a strike which Vampiric Disease is not.

Dear all,

I would add that the vampire gets the disease counter as soon as close range is determined so it happens even before strikes are announced.

But the card already says so: "Each time a vampire with a disease counter is in combat at close range with another vampire, the second vampire gets a counter as well."
It is not the card's fault that the players use to handle it differently.

The second vampire gets a second counter after the "determine range" step is over, if the range is close.
