Dear all,

Here are two scenarios :

- Vampire A is Prince and he is contesting his title.
Can he become Anarch by the Rulebook action?

- Vampire B is Camarilla Brujah Justicar, he changes his clan by Clan Impersonation or Derange to a no-Brujah Clan.
Can he become Anarch by the Rulebook action?

From the rulebook :
ADVANCED RULES Become Anarch
◼ Who can become Anarch: Any ready untitled non-Anarch vampire.
◼ Cost: 2 blood, or 1 blood if the controller controls at least 1 other ready Anarch.
◼ Default target: None. Undirected action.
◼ Default stealth: +1 stealth.
◼ Effect: If the action is successful, the acting vampire is now of the Anarch sect
ADVANCED RULES Contested Titles
Some titles are unique. For example, there can be only one prince or baron of a particular city (see  Vampiric Sects ). If more than one vampire in play claims the same title, then the title is contested. While the title is being contested, the vampires involved in the contest are treated as if they have no title, but they remain controlled and may act and block as normal. The cost to contest a title is 1 blood, which is paid by the vampire during each of their unlock phases. Instead of paying the cost to contest the title, the vampire may choose to yield the title (or may be forced to yield, if they have no blood to pay). Only ready vampires can contest titles. Vampires in torpor must yield during the unlock phase. If all other vampires contesting a title with your vampire have yielded the contest, then your vampire acquires the title during your next unlock phase, ending the contest. The vampire yielding the title will now have no title and loses the benefits of the title for the remainder of the game.

Card Text:
Name: Derange
Cardtype: Action
Clan: Malkavian/Malkavian antitribu
(D) Put this card on a younger vampire. The vampire with this card is considered to be the same clan as the acting vampire.

Name: Clan Impersonation
Cardtype: Action
Choose a clan and put this card on the acting vampire. This vampire is considered to be of the chosen clan instead of his or her original clan (if any).

Thanks in advance.

The answer is yes on both scenarios, a contested title and/or not belonging to ones original clan or sect doesn’t prevent a vampire from being able to change its sect to Anarch or any other for that matter (obviously needing the means for the change).

Well I think the question was you cannot become anarch (Rulebook action) if you have a title. But what if the title is dormant because it’s contested or because you changed clan? Can you?

But yes, you’re right inm8, in both cases the vampire can go anarch. I don’t see any ambiguity in the quoted Rulebook. In both cases “the vampire is treated as if they had no title”. So they can go anarch using the Rulebook action.

But additional point: if you go anarch you stop contesting and yield automatically. So there wasn’t much point into contesting the title in the first place ☺︎

The rulebook answers this question:
While the title is being contested, the vampires involved in the contest are treated as if they have no title, but they remain controlled and may act and block as normal.

So, if your Prince is contesting his title, he may take the cardless Anarch action.

Furthermore, changing your clan does not change your sect or title (by default) card text could override. In the case of Clan Impersonation or Derange, you're just changing clan and nothing else.

Yeah but if you were Brujah Justicar and you’re no longer Brujah because you changed clan then you’re no longer Justicar - the title becomes “dormant”
