Tournament rating system was created by gatocion
Hi!
Recently I had a discussion with a friend about the tournament rating system and couldn't find anything about it (I look the vekn site, sorry if it was there).
On the tournament rules section 3.1 Round Structure states:
V:TES tournaments shall consist of a minimum of three rounds. After the preliminary two or more rounds, the players are ranked according to the number of Game Wins (see section 3.7.1). For players with the same number of Game Wins, the players' total accumulated Victory Points from the preliminary rounds are used as a tie-breaker. In the event that ties still exist, Tournament Points (see section 3.7.3) are used. Remaining ties for any of the top five rankings are resolved using any fair random method (e.g., a coin toss or a die roll). The five highest-ranked players advance to the final round.
From that it's clear how the 5 final players are chosen (GW, VP and then TPs), but what about the final classification once the final has been played?
I always had understood that the winner of the final table was first, then de following 4 according to their final table results, and the rest of the players according to its GW, VP and TP.
My friend stated that he read somewhere that the rating from the 6th player to the last one, is due to TP, so it could be that a player without GW but with more TPs gor on a higher position than a player with 1GW but less TPs as in the following example.
Player / Tps / GW / VP
Player F 15615.0
Player G 13215.5
Player H12613.5
Player I 12003.0
Player J 12002.0
Player K 11414.5
As I always understood the ranking should be
Player G13215.5
Player F15615.0
Player K11414.5
Player H12613.5
Player I12003.0
Player J12002.0
Can someone clarify that to me or point me on any direction? I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

Ranking is done by GW, then VP, then TP as indicated by the rules you quoted, before and after the finals.
Finals winner is first, other finalists are all tied for second, as explained.
Maybe the confusion comes from how the rating points (used for global player rankings across all tournaments) are computed - they are a different thing altogether.

And if you’re wondering about rating points and global ranking (across tournaments), the system is explained here: www.vekn.net/rating-system
It has nothing to do with tournament points.
