file Superior Bauble: Timing confirmation needed

10 Mar 2026 11:21 - 10 Mar 2026 11:22 #116607 by Rémi
Dear all,

Superior Bauble offers the option to burn both Bauble and the weapon at any time. If the weapon lives play by any other means, Bauble will not be able to burn by its own card text until the end of the game.

3 Specific cases:
My minion is in combat, has just announced a strike with a "Superior Baubled" Weapon.
1/ If I burn the Bauble before Damage Prevention Window, could you please confirm that my minion' strike is then canceled and therefore will not resolved?
2/ If I burn the Bauble before after Damage Prevention Window and before actually resolving the strikes, could you please confirm that my minion' strike is then canceled and therefore will not resolved?
3/ Could you please confirm that there is no window to burn the Bauble between Strike Resolution and the trigger of "Burn after use" clause of the "Superior Baubled" equiment?

Relevant cards' text:
Bauble
[Vicissitude]Put this card on this vampire, search your library for a non-unique non-location equipment card, and put it on another minion you control (ignore requirements and cost; shuffle afterward). This vampire cannot perform actions, block or cast votes or ballots. You can burn this card and the chosen equipment during your unlock phase or after the minion with the chosen equipment leaves the controlled region.
[Superior Vicissitude] As above, but you can burn this card and the chosen equipment at any time.

Grenade
Weapon. 3R damage as a strike. If Grenade is used at close range, the minion with this weapon takes 1 damage. Burn after use.

Thanks in advance,
Rémi.

Good question.

"Burn after use" is done in strike resolution step.

While "Burn at any time" moves this in the same window.

The question is of timing.

This is under "Resolve Strike" of combat step, as am aware, there should be no barrier for you to declare that you are burning it at that time, so part of the damage declaration of the strike, and rest of the effect, you should be able to declare in same step that you are burning it.

But do wait on official statement.

Strike resolution is before damage prevention, so I don't understand your question.

2/ If I burn the Bauble before after Damage Prevention Window and before actually resolving the strikes, could you please confirm that my minion' strike is then canceled and therefore will not resolved?

I don't understand "before after".

3/ Could you please confirm that there is no window to burn the Bauble between Strike Resolution and the trigger of "Burn after use" clause of the "Superior Baubled" equiment?

Burning the Grenade is part of the strike resolution, so either you resolve the strike fully (damage + burn after use), or you burn the Grenade with Bauble before strike resolution, in which case you don't inflict the damage.

Hi Vincent,
Strike speed:

0: Combat End and Doge
1: First Strike
2: Strike and Steal blood

Just to be sure:

The Grenada example is Strike, burn it on start of "Strike" resolution, "after use", after declaration, and after Combat end, and First Strike (not counting Doge)?

Thus if you burn it before "Strike" resolution, you need to select new strike?

1. Choose strikes
2. Resolve strikes (your "strike speed" list only tells the order in which strikes resolve.)

If you have chosen to strike with grenade, then decide to burn it before it fully resolves, you don't strike at all. Choosing a strike makes you committed to that strike. Only if the strike is somehow canceled(by a card) can you choose a different strike.

Correct.
