Not a complaint, merely a question. What are the Karma and Thank You functions? What effect do they have on, uh, anything, if they have any effect at all?

The "Thank You" button is a quick way to say that you liked, enjoyed, or support the post in question without needing to make a post of your own to do so.

Positive karma is sort of like good reputation and negative karma is kind of like bad reputation.

Neither of them have any special meaning, beyond what is shown on the forum. Karma is also shown in the users profile.

I'd probably suggest we'd be better off without them. At best, they're an extremely wooly way of determining the general quality of a poster, but not really because by definition they're very clique-y things.

At worst, they're an exercise in forum circlejerking.
