Well, at least when organizing nationals this can be done.
I was under different assumption as very specifically asked Oscar about it and his answer was along the lines:
"in nationals the organizer can pretty much use whatever rules she likes."

The local rule thus was that the organizer could also play.


As the info came from head of organized play I had no qualms allowing the organizer to play in the nationals.

Good thing I already qualified in another way then

Only the finalists qualify right? Or is it still 25%?

National Championship Finalists qualify, only.

I don't know they the distinction from a regional qualifier was made, perhaps to reinforce the value for the qualifier tournament.

For Nationals, only finalists.
For Continental Qualifiers, organizer and top 25%.

"Non-playing organizer", you mean to say.

Still sounds weird to me since the nationals can be regarded "higher" in ranking then the ecq's. But this is not the place for this discussion.
