A gorgeous spring day greeted attendees from around Australia and New Zealand to what would prove to be a closely contested and almost identical finals table to the previous year. The similarities continued with Jason Ryan, champion of 2010 managing to take out the title once again to complete the double and cement himself as a force to be reckoned within the AUS\NZ V:tES scene.
Extra thanks go to Hugh Belmont for assisting on both days, your help was a godsend in dealing with unforeseen difficulties and the usage of your humble abode for accommodation, BSG and Arkham Horror was most appreciated. As I was busy filming I did not get the opportunity to take notes, thankfully Dave, our Price of Brisbane did and here is his (unedited) blow by blow account of the final table, documented for your perusal. He also has a full report from his perspective.
Simon got an Ashur tablets out first turn. Jason influenced our François "Warden" Loehr. Tim influenced out Ermenegildo, The Rake. Jason recruited Ossian. Simon influenced out Izhim abd Azrael. Jason used Ossian to recruit a Vagabond Mystic and bled Ivor for 2 with François and then influenced out Travis "Traveler72" Miller. Ivor got Lutz, Nick got Dmitra Ilyanova.
Simon played the Watchtower: The Wolves Feed and put a Tattoo Signal in play for later. Tim made Ermenegildo a Capitalist. Jason played a Visit from the Capuchin, got a Vigilance power and a Leather Jacket. Ossian got a nice Leather Jacket as well. François went and found Carlton.
Jason made threats towards Ivor that he would Pentex Lutz and cancel all his action cards if "Ivor looked his way". Ivor Villain'd Lutz and did nothing this turn (I assume caving into the threats). Nick called a vote of Parity Shift and took 5 pool off Simon, Force March'd and Enchanted at superior. He then influenced out Sisocharis. Simon used his bloat/influence trick to Reunion Kamut using Art of Memory (taking the RK back into hand). He then brought out Djuhah, The Bronze Bow. Tim spent another turn not acting with his vampire and searching his crypt for somebody.
Jason rushed Lutz with Ossian, but Lutz ran away. Ivor threatened that he would transfer out (I am sure Jason would not have minded). Jason influenced out Jack "Hannibal137" Harmon and Paul "Sixofswords29" Moreton. Ivor stated that he planed to go backwards now and called a KRC, with 3 pool damage on Jason and 2 (with Lutz's special) on Nick. It was successful and he Voter Cap'd. Ivor then brought out Rafael de Corazon.
Nick purchased himself a Monastery of Shadows and called his own KRC on Simon and Ivor (3:1), doing his own Voter Cap thing. At this point Jason promised amnesty for Nick if he took out Ivor for him and Ivor argued against the plan (for some reason
. Simon used both his vamps to gain pool with RK's.
Jason got himself the Champion power, setting himself up for the end game and then put The Unmasking into play. Ivor bled Nick for 6 with his two minions for 3 each. Nick bled into Simon, but had his bleed reduced. Simon was forced to lose his Watchtower due to the cost of number of Gehenna cards in play. Simon bled Tim and was bounced to Jason (who blocked and played nice). Tim transferred to his crypt again and Jason powered up his minions and bled Ivor. [Game State: Ivor on 7 pool, Nick on 15 pool, Simon on 16 pool, Tim on 13 pool, Jason on 11 pool].
Jason played The Rising (You cannot gain pool unless you have a VP or the edge, messes up, well, so many things it turns out). Lutz played an entrancement (to steal Ossian or Calton, didn't get to terms) and Jason used Determine to cancel the action. Ivor did the bleed for 6 thing again with his minions. Simon used Magic of the Smith to get a Guarded Rubrics and stealth bled in order to get the edge so he could play his RK and gain the pool. He finished his turn by Breaking the Code. Tim rushed one of Jason's imbued and was blocked by Carlton, he used a Torn Signpost and Immortal Grapple to send the mortal the way of all mortals. Tim then influenced out Antón de Concepción. Jason got another Champion power (this one for François) and then a Laptop Computer, getting good use of it to immediately bleed Ivor. The rest of Jason's minions then bled Ivor and ousted him.
Nick bled to get the edge (so he could gain pool from his actions) and then called a Parity Shift. He then influenced out Mustafa, The Heir. Simon put his last Ashur tablets into play (but could not gain the pool as did not have the edge) but got to cycle a card back into his hand and 12 into the library. He then stealth bled Tim, leaving him on 3 pool, forcing him to lunge at Jason.
Tim bled Jason for 2, but had the Conditioning he added DI'd. A second bled with a Foreshadowing dropped Jason's pool to 5. Jason left his minions with the Champion power untapped to stop any actions he couldn't block. Nick called 2xKRC's for a total of 6 pool damage to Simon and 1 to each of Jason and himself. Simon played a Watchtower again and a Khabar: Glory. He then ousted Tim (gaining 10 pool in the process) and made a last ditch effort to get Jason (but was thwarted by Champion). Jason bled Nick but was blocked. Jason rushed Simon and then the game timed out.
Jason(win, as highest seed at tie) 1.5 VP, Simon 1.5 VP, Nick 0.5 VP.
