Justicar Retribution III: Slay for Santa
Standard constructed tournament
December 17th 2011 11.00
16 Players
3R+F
Got relatively few timeouts (3 out of 13) but unfortunately one of those was the finals. It was nice to see people not stalling in the last minute even if that meant that they lost their 0,5 VP -THAT is the real sporstmanlike way to play!
1 1 8 Matias Frosterus 2 7,5 1,5 180
2 2 4 Juha Nyholm 1 6 1,5 150
2 3 9 Timo Rekola 2 6 138
2 4 10 Otso Turunen 2 5 0,5 138
2 5 11 Janne Lönnqvist 1 5,5 144
6 6 12 Aleksi Nuora 1 3 96
6 7 15 Heikki Parviainen 1 3 96
8 8 2 Hannu Kokkonen 0 3 144
9 9 14 Anssi Rekola 0 2,5 108
10 10 7 Teemu Pulkkinen 0 2 102
11 11 3 Lauri Salmi 0 1 94
12 12 13 Jari Mälikyrö 0 1 88
13 13 6 Heikki Palomäki 0 1 84
14 14 5 Jarkko Suvela 0 0 64
15 15 16 Henri Kangas 0 0 54
16 16 1 Mikko Moisander 0 0 48
Finalists:
1 Matias Frosterus Dmitra + Bru Roayalty 1,5 GW
2 Janne Lönnqvist Presence weenie vote 0
3 Juha Nyholm Shadow Twin 1,5
4 Timo Rekola Elimelech 0
5 Otso Turunen Gangrel Enkil Cog 0
Conngrats to Matias!
Otso has now gotten to letter G with his project to attend the tournaments with every clan in alphabetical order. Nice to see that he doesn't always opt to choose the most obvious choices (say Stanislave in this case).

It was a great tournament and the deck worked really well. The bloat is insane and 2nd tradition defense is solid, so I never got ousted. Getting a Heroic Might for someone with POT makes for a believable defense and Stutter Step kept me from harm throughout the tournament. Lots of voter decks were present in the tournament but my deck managed to get the most static votes in every table I was in and Parity Shift and Dmitra's special make for great bargaining, so voting went my way most of the time.
The final featured non-standard decks and ended up being very tight. Had the final gone on for fifteen to twenty minutes more, Otso would have won. His Dementation Gangrel wall took a huge hit at the start when Timo's Mariel St. John torpored Ryder and Jackson Asher diablerized him but Otso managed to return gloriously with a gigantic build-up into a monster table presence. Interestingly, when time ran out, Otso had played Pentex on me and both me and Juha had Pentexes in hand.
My saving grace was getting Lilith's Blessing right at the start so I could empty Karen, Tara and Carlak with Villeins. Dmitra's special and Voter Caps meant that I dared do this even with Juha's Shadow Twins looming. Got to love free minions!
Huge thanks to Lönkka for organizing and for all my opponents for great games!

Was quite challenging to try to play weenie voter as your deck predator AND, in the finals, your prey. Problem is getting the remainder of the table to vote for titles to the weenies in the beginning (they never do, which is, well, logical) and towards the end the NBR deck already has so many votes on the table that even if the remainder of the table agrees on my Justicar/Praxis votes it is really tough to push trough the humongous pile of votes NBR has...
