Start of a Season
VtES Tournament
Joensuu, Finland
22.9.2012

Whee! Our first tournament of the Autumn season 2012! We hit off with a great attendance of 12 people – now I’ll just need to activate the sleeping members for next month and we’ll have 10-15 players for each tournament, plus any guests! Let’s hope for the best for this season.

Anyways, here are the statistics. I disqualified myself because I had to leave town for a gig after the first round. And of course when I was actually doing okay in a tournament for a change… Anyways, Toni took the role of the main judge, and Esa-Matti organized the pairings and the rest after my leave.

1. Petteri Teerikangas 2+GW (2,5+GW in Finals)
2. Timo Tikkanen 2 (1,5 in Finals)
2. Jani Malmi 4+GW (- in Finals)
2. Esa-Matti Smolander 3,5+GW (- in Finals)
2. Tommi Kuittinen 3+GW (- in Finals)
6. Hannu Kokkonen 1,5
7. Sebastian Schiavone 1
7. Margus Paananen 1
9. Aki Puolakka 0,5
10. Toni Karjalainen 0
10. Miika Remahl 0
12. Petrus Makkonen 3,5+GW (Disqualified)

Round 1

Table 1
Miika Remahl (0) (The Unnamed with Hell’s Gates)
Timo Tikkanen (1) (Muricia’s Ahrimane)
Hannu Kokkonen (0) (Mistress Fanchon with Obfuscate)
Jani Malmi (3+GW) (Dmitra’s bruise voter)

Table 2
Petteri Teerikangas (0) (Gabrin’s Fantastic World)
Petrus Makkonen (3+GW) (Nu’s tap & bleed)
Aki Puolakka (0) (Nana Buruku’s bruise bleed)
Sebastian Schiavone (1) (Gabrin’s stealth bleed)

Table 3
Esa-Matti Smolander (3+GW) (Stealth Voter feat. Eze and Cock Robin)
Toni Karjalainen (0) (G4-5 Ventrue Princes)
Margus Paananen (1) (Lambach’s Presence Voter)
Tommi Kuittinen (0) (Tremere Toolbox)

Round 2

Table 1
Tommi Kuittinen (3+GW)
Toni Karjalainen (0)
Timo Tikkanen (1)
Miika Remahl (0)

Table 2
Sebastian Schiavone (0)
Aki Puolakka (0,5)
Esa-Matti Smolander (0,5)
Hannu Kokkonen (1,5)

Table 3
Petteri Teerikangas (2+GW)
Jani Malmi (1)
Margus Paananen (0)

Finals seating

Timo Tikkanen (Muricia’s Ahrimane) (starting player)
Tommi Kuittinen (Tremere Toolbox)
Petteri Teerikangas (Gabrin’s Fantastic World)
Jani Malmi (Dmitra’s bruise voter)
Esa-Matti Smolander (Stealth Voter feat. Eze and Cock Robin)

I wasn’t there to see the finals, but I asked for details afterwards:

Petteri was hard pressed by Tommi’s Seeds of Corruption and other similar techs that shut his game down from the start, and Jani had hard time with voting because of Esa-Matti’s static votes, and Ellison Humboldt who decided Tara’s votes for her. It seemed that Esa-Matti had trouble with Timo and his ahrimanes, but after Timo took Tommi out Petteri gained a foot hold once again and Jani, and afterwards Esa-Matti, had little chances against a horde of Tumnimos, powered up by Path and Week of Nightmares.

Here is the TWD for the archives. Once again congratulations to Petteri for a fine win!

Start of a Season
VtES Tournament
Joensuu, Finland
22.9.2012

I didn't find this on the calendar.
Can the national coordinator for Finland clear this up?

vekn.net/index.php/event-calendar
vekn.net/index.php/event-calendar?country=FI&date=2012-9

Tables of 4 & 5 players are required by the tournament rules, so this likely won't be hitting the TWDA.

There was no event in the calendar - I updated the rest of the Autumn season tournaments to the calendar however. I can't really see why I should prepost our local tournaments to the calendar, since if we're going to have some outsiders they usually contact us in advance. Is the calendar note required for the tournament to be VEKN sanctioned?

Our schedule's up in our Facebook site, in case you're wondering how we're keeping track of local tournaments.

And about the 3-player table - it was unfortunate, but with one player (me) being disqualified (early departure) it was the best I could come up with with 11 players. Sad if Petteri doesn't get his deck to the archives because of this, but I guess there's nothing we can do. :) I doubt he'll mind too much anyways.

The report's there for anyone interested anyways.

Then V:EKN has failed.
Sorry to see it go.

Required for V:EKN sanctioning:
1) Registration
2) Advertisement

vekn.net/index.php/how-to-run-a-vtes-tournament (section 3)
vekn.net/index.php/tournament-rules (section 2.2)

Facebook can substitute for the second, it can't substitute for the first.

And using the Calendar makes up for the Registration? Fair enough.

But yeah, I don't know what good registering the events to the calendar would give us since plenty of active Finnish players all around are already signed up for our Facebook feed, but getting the events there isn't much of a problem. I did that for the rest of the events already.

So, getting the winning decks to the TWDA requires a "Registered" tournament? Can't I register the tournament afterwards? It would be sad to see this winner go unnoticed. It was well played.

Just hoping VEKN won't fail on unnecessary bureucracy, especially on a time like this...

I've run several tournaments and it has never been a problem for me. If VEKN failed, it would not be due to such a low hurtle.

On a positive note, registering events can draw more players. Some people may be new to the area or passing through and not connected to the FB group. Many people do not even use FB.
