Now here's a deck that could actually use it and - to my astonishment - it fails to include Hatch the Viper. Was it on purpose?

I don't know for sure if it was on purpose or not, but I played the final table too and can confirm this deck is very solid the way it is.

BTW, the final table consisted of 3 wall decks, my renegade garou semi-wall deck and a bruise'n bleed Lasombra G4-5, who was the first and only player to drop off the table before the timeout (table lasted 3 hours).

The deck does not try to combat : it use only combat end and Flesh of marble, which do not work with Hatch the viper. So Hatch the viper isn't exactly on the table.

Well, there is this and there is the fact that Pedro along with some other players from São Paulo stopped playing some time before the last expansion sets were released, so there is a good probability he doesn't own Hatch the Vyper nor any other EK card.
