Dragonfire VtES Final
by Marc Pitterman (the tournament winner)
Standings going into the final after 3 rounds:
Brendan – Weenie Obfuscate Bleed (5.5 VP)
James – Imbued wall and bleed (4.5 VP)
Brent – Toreador Gun Wall (3.5 VP)
Marc – Nosferatu Bleed & Bruise (3 VP)
Kevin – Settite Bleed (3 VP)
Kevin and I placed our decks down. Brent chose to be my prey, as in the previous game I could not get through him. James next placed his Imbued upstream of me as my predator. Brendan placed his deck last in between Brent and Kevin. Brendan rolled highest and started first.
Brendan -> Kevin -> James -> Marc -> Brent
Brendan started getting minions out early to start going forward early, knowing from previous experience that the Torries do not apply much forward pressure. Kevin and James looked to get minions out to tools up and get ready for their respective predators. I did not get the vamp I was looking for (Cock Robin) but ended up with bringing Teresita and Cailean, which both proved to help keep the wall in check. Brent struggled throughout the game unable to get a weapon onto his minions.
The game started slower than it could with Brendan allowing Kevin a bit of room to try do damage to the Imbued, whilst building up his minions.
This is where the final became 2 games, with most of the play between the respective players. The first between Brendan, Kevin and James. And the second between Brent and myself.
Brendan was effective in slowly whittling down Kevin, while Kevin was lacking major stealth to get past the James’ Imbued. And James preparing for when Brendan’s swarm of minions approached.
I got lucky and was able to stealth past a few Horseshoes onto Brents’ minions, and Teresita was effective in blocking any equip actions that they tried, using her special.
2 Things happened close together to make the game pick up speed. Brent played a Smiling Jack and I put down a Dragonbound. Brendan then proceeded to pick up speed with his bleeds, as any combats put his minions closer to torpor and he did not want to suffer any large pool loss from this.
Kevin was the first to go with only being able to get out 2 minions vs Brendans 5. James was then slowly being bled out, while I was able to get one of Brents minions down and the other low on blood.
Brent was next to fall as he tried to block Brendans actions, in the hope of putting some down to benefit from the Dragonbound, but was unsuccessful. Which left me able to put his last vampire into torpor and then bleed to oust him.
With the game now down to Brendan, James and myself. I backed off a bit in the hopes that Brendan would oust James, as I fancied my chances against Brendan by being able to dunk his minions and use the Dragonbound to oust. Brendan obliged me by sneaking past James. And then looked to get past me. I was able to hold off long enough to put in some bleeds and put some minions in torpor, giving me the win as Brendans last push left him 3 pool short of ousting me.
