Anttis report of the tournament underneath and TWD list
Hiekkaharju Nightmares are always among the best of tournaments and for me one of the highlights of the tournament year. Very experienced methuselahs crawl out of their torpor (insert the gif of Baron Afanas opening his terrible red eyes and waking from his slumber. From WWDITS series) and bring out their nastiest surprises to terrorize newer cainites in to submission.
Usually this means that the tables are very combat heavy, violent and filled with amazing team plays. Years back I was playing my Sha-Ennu Will-o'-wisps-deck and happily cog-bled with the afforementioned card during my preys turn. The sequence of play that followed was: crosstable DI to my Will-o'-wisps, bounce from my prey to another Methuselah who Archon Investigated my Sha-Ennu... That solution to the problem that my Sha-Ennu provided was found out and answered in about 2minutes of tabletalk. So yeah, pretty humbling moment and pretty damn experienced/elegant response from the table.
This time I decided to take out my new Warghouls-deck, it's quite fun to pilot and suits the current meta okayish. Also I had just played that in another smaller event as a 77card version. I felt like the deck had legs, but something crucial was still missing. So I had some talks with the fearsome Bram about it and the result of the conversation was(he most likely disagrees with some of the solutions, but i'm stubborn like that) that I made the Crypt even smaller cap and just focus on the early pressure the deck provides. I cut the deck to 69 cards, added the double Los Angeles for consistency and as a way to discard extra Pipers and even profit out of that by unlocking a vampire with DOM to be ready for deflect duty AFTER Pipering something in to play with the same minion... So kinda continuing with my recurring theme of no-actions, no-modifiers, just gas. Also i simplified the combat module and upped the amount of deflects to suit the current meta better(i'm looking at you Ravnos/Ministry madness)
Preliminary rounds were as violent as one can imagine, nightmarish brutality and big laughs all around. Managed to snatch 2nd seed, losing the first seed with 6tournament points and a clever gamewin deal with Pauli&Marko while me and Lauri were smiling at each other through bloodied&missing teeth and bashing our faces in to a pieces of modern art.
The finals was Jura(Unnamed&The Great Beast), Otso(Baron warghouls), Evil-Marko(newbrujah toolbox), me(piper-ghouls) and Pauli(Sergei Voshkov-sniper-creeping sabotage)
The finals was very tight with every deck having a decent combat capability and came down to a decision to push forward during the same round from Otso&me to prevent the table from timing out. Otso ousted Marko and I managed to oust Pauli because of his his slight miscalculation. At that point the time was already threateningly running out and Jura came close to ousting Otso, but he managed to stabilize and come at me, Ghouls were hacking at ghouls and Tzimisces had a civilwar of sorts, but I managed to stay alive and was eventually saved by the bell and win with high seed.
Remember to have some (c)aution, when participating to a Nightmare...
