Martin Weinmayer report:
Meta choice:
As I tinkered around with a Hecata Zombie Rush deck myself, I realized that this is simply too much fun to play, and the risk of contesting or being stuck in an endless zombie battle is too high. Instead, I go for the counterplay, bolstering my Diana deck with a few more Anarchist Uprisings.
Sure enough, i meet no Hecata decks in the prerounds, but still miraculously make it to the finals as the fifth seed, where my tech finally pays off, securing a victory over Karl's zombie horde.
Finals seating:
[Igor Beslin] (2nd Seed) Brujah Anarch Combat ->
[Martin Weinmayer] (5th Seed) 30th Toreador Vote ->
[Michał Sokołowski] (4th Seed) Hecata Zombie Combat ->
[Matt Hodsdon] (Topseed) AUS/CEL Gun Block ->
[Karl Schaefer] (3rd Seed) Hecata Zombie Combat ->
Final Game:
Fortunately, Igor's Anarch Brujah deck has a very slow start, giving me a couple of turns to prepare for the inevitable onslaught. The two Hecata decks had the same tech idea, forcing Karl to contest with Michal for his British Museum. Without any pressure on Igor, I know I'm on a tight deadline until Igor's vile Brujah scum overruns my poor dancing Toreadors. I charge forward and oust my prey by the skin of my teeth. Matt also sees his only chance of moving forward as desperately trying to kill Karl while opening himself up to the strengthened Toreador behind him. Igor's attempts to stop me are futile; my vampires remain out of torpor due to my Charismatic Aura-Majesty combo. Matt falls to the Toreador's merciless bleeds, giving me the second VP on the table. Sure enough, Karl and Igor join forces to get me off the table next. Karl is able to assemble a formidable army of four aggressive Corpses, but this only serves to seal his doom due to my Ancilla Empowerment. With no combat ends left to fight off the Brujah horde, I concede the remaining 2VPs to Igor.
Martin 3VP
Igor 2VP
